Even if the changes were miniscule you should be given some indication that negative luck was a thing

You would have realized because it's taking longer for things to drop.

You would just go down the list of what it could be and eventually find out the torches.

drops are litterally rng as is the damage, anything you could possibly notice could and, without game explanation easily would, be put down to real life luck. Having to put everyone in whatever biome or shuffle roommates seems annoying. How difficult is it to move NPCs to different houses, and how big of an impact do those portions have on their prices?

It's pretty ez to move npcs. At night they teleport to their new room when out of render distance

it would have been fine if you could actually get the area torches in pots but it's impossible to get them unless you farm and know how to craft them.

They are fucking easy to make though. The torches always use plentiful resources from each biome

Just make a shit 3 room house in the jungle, one in the ocean on the opposite side, one in the desert oasis and one in the tundra and you've pretty much solved the problem and you even get some warps to those places where you're inevitably gonna have to go to, specially if you're doing the angler quests.

I really don't understand how NPC happiness is a problem to anyone

Of course I have. I have settlements in both the jungle and the Hallow. Only pylon I haven't put down yet is mushroom because I dont know where I want it
Happiness is a none issue, and so is torches(as in, i dont give a fuck about them)
