I’ve been playing the DS version of this game and holy fuck, this game is fun as hell.
>mess around with the turn order system
>have Stocke use Fire Storm to stack up 1 row of enemies into another row
>have Gafka use Dohatsuten to stack them all onto one place for Aht to use Dancing Death on them 2-3 times
>have Stocke uppercut the fuckers in the air with an Air Assault and then finish them off with the big dick Dead Fencer
The battle system is the perfect mix of being both simple and deep enough to mess around with. Also, the story ain’t half bad either.

This is one if the few JRPGs where I actually loved going into mob fights because of how fun the battle system was. I also loved how enemies weren’t immune to status effects and it’s an actual legitimate strategy to have them be poisoned.

Thinking about picking this up, are there any major differences between the 3DS and the DS version besides the art style? I prefer the original look but if there are substantial improvements in the 3DS version I might still go for that instead.

What I like about Stocke is how, while he’s competent as hell, he isn’t perfect and actually fucks up quite a bit. He’s emotional, friendly, and an all-around cool guy, as well as a great motivator to boot.

I like how nearly every party member had their own way of messing you up in these endings. Raynie getting you to just give up and live a peaceful life with her until the desertification struck, Marco going insane, Aht imprisoning Stocke for his own good etc.
