the wiiu had nonexistant marketing. Most people thought it was just some kinect-like addition to the base wii console. It's games weren't enough to save it.
The switch was pretty risky at first. Most people were reluctant because the controller literally slide off. It has become more and more popular over time. Normaltards have become interested because of the switch's strong line up of impressive ports. Nintendo fans are loving it because of mario odyssey, botw, and animal crossing. Smash bros ALONE makes the switch eye catching for all consumers.
The switch is going to continue smashing sales.

Even in 2012, the Wii U looked comically bulky and like a children's toy. Let's not forget the fact that people, including myself for the first few minutes it was announced, thought it was a Wii add-on, not a whole new console.
Timing is another thing. The king Hussein Obama economy from 2010-2016 was just bad. Even the Xbox and PS4 launches were pretty miserable. It wasn't until 2018 where the economy starting booming and millenials actually started getting decent jobs and being able to afford not only new consoles, but splurge on games that they probably won't play that much. Back in 2014 I remember all my friends were scraping by with their wagecuck jobs, I was the only one with a decent paying job and a Wii U. Today all of them have money to spend, and have too many games.

The Switch library has been evidently complete shit. They just managed to attract the non-gamers to buy the consoles by making tons of casual/easy games and pretending the ports were decent (most of them are terrible).

The Wii U had a horrible name that people didn't understand that it was entirely new console, it had no fucking games until MK8 6 months after launch, and the gamepad was a horrible, expensive gimmick almost as laughable as the Virtual Boy. Seriously, I picked up my gamepad the other week and I couldn't fucking believe how primitive it felt and looked. It bobbles my mind that they thought that was an acceptable product to sell even in 2012 standards.
It was also obvious to everyone that Nintendo abandoned the console very soon after launch. After Smash 4 came out, it was nothing but stogap shovelware to get adopters to not feel like they got duped. Tiny investment, wholly unoriginal mediocre titles as they desperately worked on the Switch to bring it to market. What a pathetic console, it makes the Dreamcast look godtier in comparison

That’s mostly right but the asymmetrical multiplayer shit the gamepad offered was top tier (for the three games at actually took advantage of it) and losing it kind of sucked. Nintendo Land in particular was one of the best party games I’ve ever played, especially the Luigi’s Mansion game.
