It is kind of tedious having to download and install everything individually. Would be a lot better if they could just package everything into a single simple installer that lets you choose what to install.

The self purgatory shit was so fucking better than the cult shit that comes back after SH2 to all the entries. I've been thinking if playing SH3 and 4 (the last ones from team silent) but i'm afraid they'll be a letdown. Even more since they didn't even wanted to come back to the cult shit.

SH1 is indeed overrated as hell.
3 is knocking on 2's door for supremacy, it really is just as good, its brilliant. But you need to play 1 first to appreciate it, which you already have. Good job.
4 is pretty good too, it doesnt touch 2 or 3, but its a damn sight better than 1 thats for sure.

The cult is just used to tie everything together and give a reason for the supernatural stuff, but there's a bunch of other "real" things going on like Harry panicking after losing his child, Lisa's drug addiction, Alessa being bullied, etc. Don't let the cult stuff not let you see the finer details. It'd be like just summing up 2 as "magic town" and ignoring Mary's illness, Angela's sexual abuse, and everything else.

Why do you think no one says that? and i'm sure i'm not the first one to say SH1 is only cult shit. It's because SH1 give too much reflector to the cult not like SH2 have it as background. I know all the shit you said but at the end no one gave a fuck about Lisa story or even all the bully alessa suffered because of how the story is structured.

I don't think it's that 1 focused too much on the cult, but that it purposely kept you in the dark about what really happened for most of the game which might end up feeling unsatisfying if you never replay it. Playing 1 the first time and then the second or even third time ends up with a different feeling each time. Going through the school in the early part of the game the first time feels completely different to doing it again when you already know what happened to Alessa.

1 ends up being the most replayable for me because of that, whereas with 2 I really hated replaying it for the most part. Maybe that's why so many people say 1 is just the cult and 2 is so fantastic.

I actually love SH2, but it's FF7 and OOT levels of overrated. If no one is willing to knock it down a few pegs, I will.

I don't know if I'd consider it a remaster since a lot of it is supposed to just bring the PC port up to the quality of the PS2 version. It's more like just fixing a broken version. If it does more than that then it's a remaster.

I use freeware called WinCDEmu. Very simple and lightweight.
