I've never played a single Tomb Raider game. Now that the series is on sale on steam I might give it a try. Which game should I start with/which one is the best? I really like dark and violent/graphic videogames, which I heard Shadow has a lot of. Should I start with that one or are the others too important to miss?

You could play all those shitty new games and you still wouldn't have played a Tomb Raider game.
The nu-Tomb Raider games are all the same cinematic AAA trash with endless crafting to pad out the playtime.
Play them in order
>I really like dark and violent/graphic videogames, which I heard Shadow has a lot of.
what? you definitely heard wrong.
that being said, I quite liked Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow is good as well. The gameplay is slow, puzzles are sometimes a bit shallow. But I'm a sucker for well crafted environments and graphics are top notch.
Play the first 5, then just play custom levels forever.
Legend, Anniversary, Underworld, 2013 reboot, Lara Croft and Guardian of Light if you have buddy for coop
Shadow was my favorite, they're all decent. Definitelty superior to Uncharted
>cinematic
The games are set in large open hubs. It's all gameplay. Stop spouting buzzwords in place of arguments
Play Anniversary, it's a remake of 1 that doesn't feel like chewing glass to play, and also isn't a turbo edgy grimdark murder simulator like the new one. Perfect middle ground. If you like it you can play Legend since it's in that continuity
Play Tomb Raider 1 (1996). I made the mistake of starting with the reboot game from 2011, then, for the first time last year, sat and started TR1 on the PS1 and can safely say it is one of the greatest video games ever made. Like 20 hours of PURE video game from start to finish. Once you learn the grid based movement system you will feel like a fucking unstoppable acrobat too.
No nostalgia or anything because i had not played it before, it's fucking amazing and i cannot believe i didn't get on the Lara train back in the 90's.
Like other user said the reboot trilogy is more like Uncharted.
People say the new Tomb Raiders suck but I tried the old ones and they suck too. It's always been a mediocre series but it gets promoted by dumb patriotic bongs.
rofl
The third one isnt. It's way slower and puzzle based
>cinematic AAA trash
I've played the first game and it has a satisfactory and not exaggerated number of cinematics, you don't know what you're saying.
truth
Im old fag, Ive played them way back, they were always mediocre
Tomb Raider Aniversary becauae its a remake of the originals but with more fluid movement.
Tomb Raider Underworld because its a sequel to Aniversary with the same engIne but far superior graphics. The last and best tomb raider game.
MaYbe, Tomb Rider Legend becuse its part of the trilogy but is short, is too easy and the graphics are poor.
by chronological order I think its TR Anniversary, TR Legend, TR Underworld.
if you want nu tomb raider, you will not get the actual tomb raider atmosphere with these games
None of Legend or Underworld have Tomb Raider atmosphere.
That trilogy is a weird frankenstein of ideas that don't play well together.
Tomb Raider 1 if can stomach the controls and graphics. Failing that, Legend or the first reboot depending on which one you like the look of. Honestly aside from AOD none of the games are 'bad"
Shadow tries to make Lara dark/edgy but it seems more like she has a mental illness.
need more pics of lara grinning like a psychopath, its for a friend
>READING ATMOSPHERE...
>CALCULATING EMOTIONS...
>TURNING-ON FACE EXPRESSION: HAPPY
I made my friend play Underworld after finishing nu-TR and he just got stonewalled hard by the puzzles.
It was a little sad to watch.
just make more porn God dammit
what a fucking cope to start a thread off
Don't listen to v/ the new series is great. Play in order it's a trilogy.
i liked rise
>Which game should I start with/which one is the best?
Oh yeah regarding that, probably the 2013 one since it's short and concise under 10 hours, and also given away for free some weeks back. Rise is more of its shooting and Shadow is more of its Challenge Tombs (platforming+physics puzzles) so you can judge based on that.
Play the new ones.
If you want to play an older one after that, play Underworld.
If you want to experience old Lara, she has her own modern spinoff series. These all are titled "Lara Croft: _____." The twin stick shooters are decent fun as is the puzzle game.
Tomb Raider (2013) is the most violently graphic. You'll bust nuts regularly if you're into abuse. Shadow is the darkest. Rise is overall (imo) the best by a country mile.
