I've worked with some of the biggest name VOs in gaming and I can tell you for 100% fact, most of them do not play video games at all. Kind of like how most actors don't actually watch movies they're in, the A-list VOs like Troy who are basically constantly working (because the same 20 VOs get all the AAA jobs due to union shit) they don't actually take time off to play video games, they have no fucking clue what they're talking about. They're functionally disconnected from the industry in that they know what lines they speak, but they don't know anything about how those voice lines are used or the public reception of the product they're involved in because by the time it launches they're moved on to the next thing they're working on.
