There’s really no excuse anymore for FF16 to not be excellent. FF14 is salvaged and making bank, and both KH3 and FF15 which were in development for the better part of a decade each are finally behind them so Square has, as far as we’re aware, nothing in the way of delivering a good game with FF16. As far as I’m concerned this is the final straw to see if there’s still any hope for Final Fantasy after 15 years of poor management and bad decisions finally being past us. I don’t have high hopes but I’d like to be surprised.

From what I’ve read Nomura was spreading himself too thin over multiple massive projects at once, and they were also struggling to realise his desired scope and scale for the game on PS3 hardware. After being restarted several times SE eventually got fed up and put Tabata in charge of the project and told him to have something ready for release within 2 years, so the XV we got was thrown together from various assets remaining from prior Versus XIII builds and a new story was hacked together to try and tie it all together. For the shit hand he was dealt Tabata put together a somewhat decent hack and slash game but he never should have had to be put in that position to begin with, but thanks to SE’s retarded management it had to happen.

IIRC it was actually 4 years Tabata had to salvage the game, so he still kinda fucked things up on his own but his job was still not a favourable one. I sure as fuck wouldn’t want to be made to finish a AAA game Nomura got bored of and abandoned, that sounds like a fucking nightmare.
