>Monk
>Always the best class.
Why?
Monk
>monk is a janny
What are some roguelikes where I can play as an Unarmed Monk?
If I'm honest the only one I really enjoyed was Dungeons of Dredmor. I know DC:SS is a thing but I feel like I'm too low-iq for that.
It's also the class that gets shit on the most.
Hardship is the path to enlightenment.
>Strong of body and mind
>Spiritually centered
>Agile and dextrous
>No need for armor, dashing clothes is enough
>No need for a blade or a club, hands are deadlier than both
Mr.Frog confirmed monkpilled
>fucks with inner body and mind
>can dodge like crazy
>clever and high intelligence
>can literally catch an arrow and throw it back
Because fuck you, that's why.
I can confirm it's not always the best class
>start D&D group
>play a halfling monk
>couple sessions in the group falls apart weeks before covid and state lockdown
>scratch the D&D itch by buying Pathfinder: kingmaker
>remake my monk as best I can
>in Pathfinder ruleset, unarmed attacks trigger attacks of opporunity
>Monk gets obliterated by pretty much everyone
I assume there's a work-around to this but I have not returned to it because my salt was overwhelming when I actually read the list of Opporunity strike triggers in Pathfinder. I'll stay a 5e baby
>Not maining a druid build
How do you make a monk in a game without it being overpowered insanity or cripplingly weak?
Pathfinder is trash,
Only people that play Pathfinder are insufferable cunts
I'm doing it in D&D and I've gotten screwed by some really poor dice roles. But I've been able to do some silly recovery, because I play a Tabaxi and my tail has literally saved me from several poor roles
>could one shot an enemy barehanded
>sword can't
they tend to be boring to play compared to other classes. cool concept, but all you do is calmly punch stuff. no berserker rage, no variation, just quiet and stoic neutral guy with no character depth, conversational ability or versatility.
>not!magic "inner strength" bullshit
fuck that I'll just play an unarmored unarmed warrior
Nethack has monks I believe
I like the older monk archetypes, where its just some ordinary dude who also happens to be a talented martial artist
Ayla, Chrono Trigger
Gallon, Vampire
Sabin, FF6
Kevin, Trials of Mana
etc
I hate the overproduced and stylized shit, where the monk is somehow an entirely different lifestyle, such as can be found in blizzard games
Sometimes I think I'd be happier if I was a monk.
monks can't fap
My halfling monk had some success but I think I got lucky with the setting. The campaign started with us in a prison trying to arm ourselves and escape. Best blind pick I could hope for. I'm still a D&D novice though
I'd welcome it feels like a chore at this point.
>Final Fantasy 1
nope
I am as well, I'm on my first game right now. But I've been able to do some silly stuff like do a backhand with my furry of blows and throw the enemy into another killing both of them. Or climbing up a statue out of range of the enemies who then throw a spear at me and I deflect it throw it back and then dangle upside down by my tail mocking them.
Shits pretty fun.
Tons of health, low defense, not many options for self healing. Monk in FFXI is great, but using counter stance to gain 40% counter rate lowers your defense by like 80% and counter doesn’t work against special moves, so it can drain a healer pretty quickly if you try to tank the wrong things, they also need a lot more raw attack and critical hit rate to be on par or above heavy melees. They’re an absolute monster when properly supported tho
Good shit OP. Monks are the best.
The only game that really pops to mind where the monk is a must have is for the king, Monk is pretty shit in Diablo 3 and even worse in FF12, can think of any other games with a monk class off the top of my head.
Games that have monks:
>Pathfinder: Kingmaker
>Diablo 3
>Tangledeep
>Baldur's Gate 1-2 EE
>Never Winter Nights 2
Any other games?
the duality of anura
You either forgo the traits that define a monk and make it play by the same rules (armed and armored) or give it some crippling disadvantage to keep it in check.
I would say average health but high natural defense (bonus is lost when equipping armor). Maybe natural armor increases as you level, so you start with basic light armor equivalent and end up around medium. The benefit is that you don't get any kind of weight debuff so your high defense is only a fallback. They should be quick and focus primarily on evading/parrying blows.

a member of a religious community of men typically living under vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience
You might. I was born in thailand, put into a buddhist monastery by my parents at age 6. Spent 15 years there, following a pretty steady routine of cleaning, studying scripture, helping the local villages in exchange for food (may have heard of it, called giving alms, japanese call it takuhatsu).
It was very nice, and a very simple life. Military fucked it up by throwing a bunch of men into the villages we once lived in, and supported actively, and eventually when the leader of my temple complained, he got shot, they tore down the temple, and we were all basically left with nowhere to go. Some of us traveled around, we were invited to japan to share the scriptures and works we saved, I went, but after sharing knowledge, despite my gratefulness, I left, ended up coming to america, thankfully I had saved my money as opposed to spending it on nonsense.

Actual best class.
No!
DC:SS is not hard to get into, just take it slow, pretend auto explore doesn't exist, and avoid tuned doors.
Honestly give it a try. Monk isn't a great background but if you play a Minotaur the race will carry you(Minotaur is by far the easiest for new players since it's super strong early on and gets to wear armour).
Yes.
What!
