The worst is where technically remasters are more technically impressive, but in terms of art-direction and competence in conveying atmosphere/tone it complete mutiliates the original, but because of the technical improvements consoomer gaymers drool over it.
Best examples from the top of my head are Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and the Fallout 4 New Vegas remake. Technically better, but they are stripped of any of the original tone.

For Halo CEA it's not even tone, they just made a bunch of stuff wrong. The desert area in Truth and Reconciliation is full of plants. And all the Forerunner architecture is chunky and cartoonish.
