They're supersoldiers who use different parasites in a manner similar to biological nanomachines. The End and The Pain were revealed to have also been parasite soldiers who existed prior. Quiet and Code-Talker also have parasites.

The story of MGSV was fine, just incomplete. As much as half of the originally intended story got into the game.

Boss fights are the weakest part of any MGS games I've played so far
they're memorable but they're also a pain in the ass due to the clunky controls
I find it funny how MGS5 has the most decent gameplay, yet it's boss fighs are the weakest

Battle Gear was cut because of balance.
Snake had a lot of recorded lines, like when firing guys from Mother Base similar to Peace Walker, which was cut because Kojima really liked Mad Max and silent protagonist.
Chico was supposed to survive the crash.
Also sheep costume was planned.
MGSV is fucking soulless, even more so than Peace Walker. At least that game "dared" to give us several unique mecha and vehicle bosses after so many missions. What were the bosses in MGSV again?

no. Part of XOF's shtick is that we don't really know who they are or where they operate out of, and it's the same with the Skulls. We don't know who they were, how exactly they came to be or what lab they crawled out of. IMO it adds to their mystique, but in a game with a ton of loose ends already I kinda wish they were fleshed out a bit more

Yeah you get these whacky set pieces and story bits and then you spend all your time just shimmying in the fucking desert and africa/also a desert knocking people out till fill up your fucking huge pointless empty base so your numbers go up and you can unlock better ways to knock people out to fill up your base. Also the Dog you get 5 minutes into free roam that wall hacks everything for no reason sure makes the game fun. Of course its optional to turn that off just like the Quick time events and all the other broken shit. I don't know why because the game heavily rewards you for abusing the quick time events and being lethal with S ranking in missions.

This was probably my biggest gripe with V. I 100% don't get the boner it had for retconning MGS3 in ways that didn't make any sense. Pain could control bees because wolbachia. Fury had inhuman pain tolerence because wolbachia. But we'll ignore that Sorrow can talk to ghosts and that Volgin can control electricity. We'll also throw in that XOF was secretly helping Naked Snake behind the scenes the entire time. It honestly made no sense aside from building up le spoopy skullman and his group as these shadow entities that went absolutely fucking nowhere.

The game unironically becomes better if you turn off snake's freeze-time powers and don't use D-dog
Also you can play as other people, which is pretty cool.
Kinda wish you could upgrade the stats of a combat team member if you do enough side missions with them.
And I also hate how they basically turned a bunch of side missions into heavily padded "story" missions with 30 seconds of dialogue explaining shit. We could've had Mercenary Business: Afganistan & Africa Edition 2015 but instead we got an average MGS game.
