How do we fix the horror genre?

more gore and blood more trippy visuals more insanely detailed audio more filth

give all the girls fat asses and big tiddy so it's all the more horrible when bad things happen

Less BOO GOTCHA jump scares and more subtle “holy fuck did I just see that?!” jump scares

Dreamt of this haunting woman with an insect-like mouth the other day. In my dream she was engaging in vicious, silent fellatio while staring into my eyes. Her throat felt ice-cold, with a source of strange, stinging warmth in its deepest part.

For a while the only sound was the jingling of her jewellery, which was hewn out of a strange, silver-like metal that did not exist on Earth. When I was about to climax, she started eating my groin area, like a mantis eating the face off of a captured insect.

Instead of feeling pain, however, my sense of pleasure grew manifold as the mantis-girl devoured my physical body. I felt a wave of ecstatic pleasure that I could never feel in waking life. As she gnawed me out of existence, the girl kept whispering, begging in a sibilant voice that emanated from her chest;

“Ignore me… Pretend you don’t care… I like it better that way… I like it better that way… Please…”

It was an awfully realistic dream.

Bring back christian/satanic undertones.

Make things less "Oooh maybe you're crazy oooooh" and just straight up horror

focus on coom instead of doom

>How should be fix x genre?
Spoken like a retard who only plays AAA trash. Play more games.

less onions horror and more jumpscares

Purge the shitty indie studios who degrade the horror genre.

What does this wet dream have to do with horror?

I wonder if it's possible to make a game about sleep paralysis.

Probably not, would be cool if you could though.

That sounds pretty cool user, like reading a Lovecraft story. Have you had any similar dreams after?

There are a few Lovecraft stories like that
There are a few H-mangas like that

That was the accompanying text for the OP image, drawn by a Turkish artist known as C.M. Kosemen

>How do we fix the horror genre?
employ actually good artists who have experienced trauma for themselves

black cocks

Guess it would have to be a pure VN experience, can't really have a game where you totally take agency away from the player like that unless it's a VN where they never had any to begin with.

Gonna check his work out, thanks user.

Well damn, what a weird wet dream

Hmm maybe slowly ease players into the scary places. Start off in a normal area and slowly make the locales more disconcerting. Eventually start throwing level layouts that make no sense architecturally. Have a bunch of easy creatures you can run by or kill early on, by the mid point have something intimidating start following you everywhere that you can't get rid of. Ease up a bit for players to catch their breath and then bring it home with a big finale.

my opinions:

>good atmosphere/themes
>excellent sound design
>good horror trope for monster
>player character can reasonably defend themselves but not too well (borderline clumsy)
>over arching theme
>tons of mystery

Would work if not for the fact that most of them are trannies.

>ywn have a big titty mommy insect next door
Also I can't count how many loads I've busted to nakamura's work, it's just too good lads

That game has some incredibly tense first couple of hours, but can't keep it up till the end. I find that a pretty common problem with horror games.

I feel like they usually outlive their welcome. You get used to the atmosphere and horror.

How important would you place monster design?
His insect ladies are so great. Probably my second favorite H-manga artist.

Copy Silent Hill 2 but change the setting and characters enough that it doesn't feel like plagiarism.

Surely, we can have better gore in games now. Really make the players sick

Proper gore and dismemberment. The problem right now is that any time something bad happens to a character they immediately die afterwards, when in reality even having your skull caves half in would lead to a brief period of frothing and spastic moaning.
That's truly terrifying.
Even games like Dead Space have a fairly clear divide between human and corpse, people need to stop treating it as a switch and more of a gradient.
Focus on body mutilation and dismemberment WITHOUT death.

I really think monster design can sell the atmosphere so yeah it's pretty important.

The more ways you can pound on the player's senses the better.
