How do we fix storymode in fighters? This game's story was absolute dogshit.

The thing about 7 was that it had a lower budget than any of the last few games that came out, and they were reeling from the relative flop of Street Fighter X Tekken

I'm just glad they put what little amount they had to work with and focused it on the gameplay. desu, story in tekken's been shit since 4

I DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT THE STORY JUST BUFF MOVEMENT

don't
arcade mode + interludes + fmv endings was perfect just bring that shit back like in tekken 5

Who gives a shit about a story in a fighting game?

Nigger, there's a story mode?

Twisted Metal Black had a kino story mode. There is zero excuse for story mode to be as shitty as it is in fighters.

What bothers me more is how relatively short arcade mode is

I do. I need a reason to dedicate hundreds-thousands of hours autistically mastering a character beyond he/she looks cool or has a cool playstyle. I want to be able to connect with them the same way I do movie, show, anime characters and like them as an actual character.

You won't master a character in arcade mode, it will teach you bad habits.

Story Mode should be from the perspective of a fighter you wish to play as and not cinematic narrative, god damn it.

Pretty much. Every character should feel like the main character of the story. Nobody wants to play as irrelevant jobbers.

Then stick to your movies, shows, and anime, faggot. Maybe you didn't know but fighting games aren't terribly popular with the general public, and I don't need devs thinking they can pour their limited budgets into movie stories at the cost of making a solid game to appeal to faggots like you who don't (and won't) even play them.

I mean Mortal Kombat was pretty decent but it's hindered by the fact it's still just a 2 hour long mode that you play only once.

They need a proper adventure rpg style mode like in Soul Caliber.

>I mean Mortal Kombat was pretty decent
lol

And this is why fighting games are dead. Why do you think DBFZ was so popular? Because people actually gave a shit about the characters coming into the game, and it will always be this way with IP based fighters. Sorry but SFV's shitty non existant story mode was the reason it flopped at launch, apart from being a piece of shit game in general.

>Tekken
>Being anything other than irrelevant dog shit in 2020

If that's the case then devs should just stop story/arcade mode altogether. Cause their attempts at cobbling some sort of story mode are embarrassing and are worse than just not having any story mode at all. Seriously the most of the bottom of the barrel shounen I've seen are better than the "best" fighting game stories.

>Why do you think DBFZ was so popular?
Less popular than tekken you mean?

Virtua Fighter 5 has an amazing single player mode in the 360 where it simulates the going to the arcades experience, with simulated players that play differently to cpus in arcade mode, very fun to play, gives you realish vibes.

Do you think virtua fighter was popular in spite of adding the best single player content, period, to date?

Better than dull Tekken juggle trash

>Why do you think DBFZ was so popular?
>was

I want you to think about what you wrote. Think hard, and come up with a reason why it's not popular anymore.

>SFV

it flopped because it was unga trash designed by a GG player. Unless you actually think fully-fledged rendered cutscenes would have saved it, then you're even more retarded than I thought.

>Implying anyone cares about this garbage past Tekken 3

>SHUT THE FUCK UP CASUAL GO BACK TO YOUR ANIME AND MOVIES IF YOU CARE SO MUCH ABOUT CHARACTER AND STORY!

>If character and story are so irrelevant why don't you play fighting games with stick people?

>SHUT UP THAT'S DIFFERENT!

I only care about it if it has my wife in it.

Nigga, don't be hatin', I'll play SF too.

DBFZ sold more than Tekken 7. I'm aware it's not as popular competitively. I'm not talking about some comprehensive arcade mode that does a lot to immerse you into the game. I'm talking about an actual servicable "story".

Nice try but it flopped because it had a barebones and pathetic launch with barely any characters and no story mode which caused everyone to trash it. The gameplay complaints came way after.

Story is secondary
Waifus are the most important

Gameplay complaints were on day 1, dumbass. Maybe people who were too shitty to realize it didn't complain. Also, shit got even worse in Season 2, which is hilarious.

>sold more
And is less played.

>an actual servicable "story".
Yeah, buy another kind of game, when you purhcase a fighting game, you're purchasing a multiplayer game, not a single player game.

Don't wanna sound like a cunt, it's just fighters are for this, really.

>implying anyone who could rank past bronze gave a shit about story mode

The rest is true, though. Also webm related was a reason.

Story mode used to be a mode to unlock characters. Now characters are DLC.

I liked unlocking all of the characters and having a goofy story to go with each. But muh DLC and muh e-sports..

I honestly think fighters should either not have story mode and just have cool looking characters with probably some lore background on them or just make ip based fighters where people come into the game already attached to said characters. Like a hxh fighter really doesn't need a story mode even though it'd invariably get one. I think the issue with tekken and a lot of fighters is 90 percent of the cast that aren't the mishimas feel like irrelevant jobbers, and nobody wants to main irrelevant jobbers unless you're some cuck who's favorite character in DB is yamcha or something. Tournament setting was always the best where the winner is ambiguous rather than this grand narrative, it's why TMB had a great story mode.

Go read a VN then faggot.

Isn't that BB's story mode

They fucked up the moment they retconned the cliff toss with "gotta check if muh son has the devil gene" BS.

The writing took a nosedive after 4.
