Mario Luigi superstar saga. I shat on the art but in game and animation it has a lot of soul. I think the idle animations are worse? Or maybe the music is worse? Idk but when M and L idle in combat it doesn't scratch that itch like the gba games did. Its also much much easier than superstar saga gba, the enemies telegraph their attacks a lot more cleanly and fairly imo, but it does make the game baby mode easy.

Dragon Quest II. I think I liked how fast combat was in the first game and wandering around the sea blindly hoping I find what I need to progress kind of blows but so far I've had to do zero grinding and battles are WAY more tactical since spells aren't trash which is pretty sweet. Visiting Alefgard was a cute touch.
