It’s a coping mechanism. Heather is very tomboyish and doesn’t get emotional in front of people, only angry or rudely dismissive. Also what kind of faggot are you that you don’t want to remember Heather by her true character - that of a very confident and strong headed teen - as opposed to a passing emotional low point? Take notes kid, this is how you write a fulfilling end for a character like this.

It just doesn't fit the setting. Supposedly it's this horrible place with awful monsters and everybody dying but a teenage girl can repeatedly make jokes? If it was something like DMC that embraced that aspect of it more it might've worked, but that's not really what Silent Hill is. There's a reason the other games didn't really try to be funny except for with the Easter egg endings.

It probably would've been better if they spread out Heather's saga over multiple games if they wanted her character to have that much depth. It's just too short to try and show that much, which is why I'm not the only person who noticed it felt off for her to repeatedly go from scared/sad to joking like that.

You should just think of it as a way to push the story and tie everything together instead of trying to focus directly on it so much. It's not like 2 was about the town itself, James wasn't investigating the town and trying to understand everything behind it aside from how it personally involved him, just like Harry was only really focused on saving his daughter instead of focused on the cult.

The first game still had the psychological reflection aspect too, it was just from Alessa rather than the protagonist. Replaying the game after learning that gives it a pretty different feel which is something I really appreciated, it's quite different from your first time playing.

Heather is peak female character design

james and harry were barely phased by silent hill, it took mary or maria to make james not act like it was a dream of him being mildly confused which was the only thing harry did, henry does the same in the game after 3. you just want your over emotional waifu? that's fine, angela exists. but heather had strength inside herself

in 1 the cult was a set dressing excuse for a weird main antagonist and so that alessa having psychic powers didnt seem as out of place as it would if she was just from say, an abusive home in an insular redneck town (just as an example alternative). 2 wouldnt have been made if 1 wasn't because the concept of a town punishing you is fucking retarded and wouldve been laughedo ut of any writing room no matter how amateur (which out of the context of 1 is what it SEEMS like and why most normalfaggot retarded idiot niggers think that). in 3 heather is the focus even more than she was in 1, and the cult is just necessity to move the story along and get to see her struggle and overcome teenage fears such as losing your parents or getting pregnant too young etc. 4 is about walter being a psycho. origins is about ruining the lore. homecoming is much more focused on the cult but in a weird roundabout way with OCs and an OC cult with everything inspired by the look of the shit movie based on the games. everything after that riffed sh2 or was a spin off because of retards like you who hate occult anything existing within the vicinity of the problem they helped to cause.

No, the problem is SH3 never fully commits to anything. It repeatedly had Heather suddenly going from angry/scared/sad to joking a minute later and it just always killed any kind of build up.

For an example where it's done well I'd use Alice from American McGee's Alice. The game starts off with Alice being more sarcastic and making jokes, but then around the halfway point the game fully commits to becoming serious and stays that way until the end. In comparison SH3 constantly shifts from trying to be serious to trying to be funny and it never allows for any kind of build up and then satisfying release.

I'm not trying to say I completely hate Heather though. The first couple hours of the game had me really interested in her and seeing what she was going through. But it started to feel like they didn't really know what to do with her after a certain point. And that seems kind of obvious when you learn they didn't want 3 to be a sequel to 1 but another standalone story like 2. Generally when you try to expand on a game that basically had its story already wrapped up you run into problems like that.

i think you wanted it to tell a different story than it was intending on telling. silent hill was never about the town or even the horror in it, that's for the player more than anything. if that's a failure then every game in the series including the good ones that set a high bar for various horror games trying to reach is a failure too in your eyes.

Not sure where you're getting any of that. I don't think the story itself is bad, just how it's told. A section should've been dedicated to building up each aspect of Heather's personality rather than trying to mix it up throughout the entire thing. It ends up feeling like I read half of a chapter of a book before reading half of the next one and then going back again.

The other games didn't have this problem. Maybe it's because they ran too hard with the multiple personality thing Heather had going on.
