Anyone worth their salt is suggesting the 3600 simply because it is so cheap - it is 100 burgers less than the 10600k (and in bongland the margin is even higher in favour of the 3600). Face it amigo, unless you go all-in with a 10600k comet lake is DOA as it is priced too high.

Also consider latest rumours are suggesting Zen 3 might be shifted to 5nm with the XT refresh serving as a stopgap. Intel has nothing for over a year.

Intel is effectively scrambling (doing another pentium emergency edition) because they have nothing new for a long time. Even comet lake itself is a dead end as it can't use pcie4 the socket supports! It would be foolish to ignore the impressive feats of bleeding the node dry but consider when skylake was designed the ringbus was not intended to go beyond four cores - now they are sticking 10c cores on a package and effectively praying AMD has no counter (which they do). Notice how in the HEDT, server and most likely laptop space AMD's performance is significantly better and even OEM shenanigans can only slow the loss of market share down, not stop it. Remember Intel's CEO in a investor meeting flatout stated the days of 90%+ market share are over and Intel would have to adjust to resurgence of AMD. Intel aren't going anywhere but they will lose a LOT of market share if current trends continue (and given roadmaps,. they will).

It is a matter of scaling. Gaming is rather meh for multi-threading for a host of reasons but the second you do srs bsns work the core count matters.
