WHAT'S THAT
WHO GOES

i want to play this game but you move so god damn slow, and the controls are all fucked up

OY TAFFER

isn't this Thi4f not Thief 3?

I assume you're talking about Thief 2 where Garrett defaults to creeping instead of running? Why don't you just run, it's plenty fast

I wish all modern games had fucked up default keybindings to discourage players from clicking New Game as the first thing they do when they arrive to the main menu.

there's a rebind I found on the steam community section that makes the controls more conventional. Made a world of difference to me. I'll see if I can find the link

>Arkane gets zero marketing and we have no news on Deathloop
>System Shock was acquired by Tencent
>Deus Ex under SQEnix
>Thief's 'reboot' was awful enough to kill the series dead
>Looking Glass Studios is dead
I'm going to miss immersive sims.

You can rebind the controls you know.

They don't even call you taffer in thief 4, what a load of bullshit

here we are. as stated, made a big difference for me

I've been playing Thiaf just for self torture and I've been wondering, is the game just 100% bad? Let's try this out. Pick an aspect of game design and let's see why it's been done the worst possible way in the game.

COCKRINGS EH, FUCKER?

thank you, ive been wanting to play this game for a while after finishing Deus Ex. Old but gold and all that.

Arkane has been teasing news for today (may or not be Deathloop related). Gloomwood and Monomyth are looking like bretty gud indie Thief and Ultima Underworld tributes, respectively. The Thief mod community is still pretty lively and you can always pick up DromEd and create you to Dark Engine works if you want. It's not all bad.

>2013
>user hosts a Thei/v/ery server where we all played and had fun
>IIRC we had 10+ players
>Guards vs. Thieves mayhem, shitposting and banter in the chat
>Played a variety of levels
>Died after only a few games

If memory serves it was hosted by a Spanish guy. I hope we get to play it again.

For those who don't know Thievery is a mod for Unreal Tournament 99 which is basically just Thief: Multiplayer edition.

Guards vs. Thieves, both teams have a buy menu at the start and limited respawns, Thieves have objectives (e.g. Steal this diamond, steal 800gp of loot, destroy this object, etc.) and Guards have to co-ordinate, stay vigilant and stop them
>Guards have more powerful weapons and more health (I think) but Thieves get an array of gadgets at their disposal, mostly lifted from Thief 1+2

>Gloomwood
Oh, yeah, I forgot about that one. What about Monomyth though? First time I hear about it.

It's being made by one guy (who I think used to post in AGDG) so it will take a while, but they put together an alpha demo not long ago. Very promising

"Greed shall be your undoing, poor Garrett."-Oracle Statue

I hate the concept of PvP stealth. A sensible infiltration team would abort and postpone the mission before starting if they'd know the guards are aware of an imminent intrusion. In my book the "thief team" fails their first goal instantly, which is to remain undetected. There is no way to play a game like that in a way where the guards are unaware.

Sound design.

Just assume they're assault thieves or it's a high-stakes important mission for their crew or something. Like they'd been planning the heist for weeks but someone ratted them out and the guards expect them, but instead of giving up, they decide to take their best shot at it.

>thiaf
what?

just rebind the keys when you first boot up the game to something resembling more modern control schemes and boom you're good to go

How did it work exactly? Are thieves invisible in shadows? And are their footsteps silent for guards when walking on stone surfaces?

i did rebind them, but you cant hold shift to sprint and W at the same time, you need to hold shift alone to sprint, and its so damn autistic.

-Geometry fails to muffle audio in any way
-NPC conversations repeat infinitely instead of playing the one time they're supposed to be heard
-There are invisible NPCs outside the level design who's conversations play inside the player's head in mono
-Distance-based sound dampening is arbitrary and nearly binary.
-Distraction sounds get muffled at very short range even though sound itself is heard unhindered
-Level design has areas where all sound is deactivated for no reason
...
there's more but those are what immediately came to mind

>Thief 1 anniversary contest
>Thief 2 anniversary contest
It felt good to have a bunch of FMs come out at once, but I expect another drought. And I don't expect a Thief 3 anniversary contest for obvious reasons.

Their footsteps are quieter than the guards' and they are invisible in low light

There is no sprint. There's run forward, and shift makes you walk instead. There's also walk forward but who would ever use that since 90% of all surface in the game do not make enough sound to alert anything even when you're running?
