This problem multiplies heavily in MHA. You have ALL these cool characters with quirks and personality but were stuck seeing the protag cry and win all his battles effortlessly.

In Naruto it's less that characters job and more that they just don't fucking do anything most of the time. There are multiple times where secondary characters outright lose but it's an important moment for them (Lee vs Gaara and Guy vs Madara are the first two that come to mind), meanwhile there are characters that have fought and won on occasion who don't mean shit to the story and just don't do anything for 90% of it (see: half the guys who fight the Sound in the Sasuke Retrieval Arc).

Anyway, to keep this vidya: the best Naruto games are the Clash of Ninja/Gekitou Ninja Taisen series. Stormfags can fuck off, their mediocre series is why Bamco is so lazy with its anime licenses.

He jobbed during his first actual fight. Zabuza outmatches him and he needed to be saved by Naruto and Sasuke's. Then the next time, he still can barely manage to be equal to Zabuza and only ends killing Haku by accident. For the rest of the series until the war, he doesn't do shit other than get surpassed by everyone and literally die.

Then in the war he kills a few fodder zombies mostly with help. His "god-tier" powerup is getting a Susanoo that he didn't already have for some reason which further adds to his jobber status. All it really does is keep him and Sakura from getting killed by the final boss. Now, in Burrito he doesn't even have a Sharingan or participate in many battles.

Sasuke is way worse. All of his fights end the same exact way with him surviving getting pummeled thanks to a lame asspull. The story revolves around him more than it does the damn titular character. The "plot" as we know wouldn't exist if the author didn't pussy out of killing him off in the first arc. Madara's plot armor is only contained to the war arc though and even then it's shattered in such an embarrassing way that it actually balances out.
