A PS4 is about 15.5% weaker, a differential that is really, really irrelevant, and it'll have actual exclusives you can't play on PC. The true gamer path forward is the same as it was last gen: PC, PS5, Switch. That'll let you play pretty much everything.

I'll explain to you why Horizon and Death Stranding are coming to PC. Kojima had a tremendous amount of negotiating power with his contract with Sony and was able to specify that he be allowed to port the game to PC, something an autistic auteur like him loves because it means his game can be run on the best hardware on the market, unrestricted. Because it shares the Decima engine with Horizon: Zero Dawn, all the work they undertook porting the game to PC could also be carried over to Horizon, which made a PC port cost-effective.

Sure, if Sony starts porting their games en-masse, then yeah, there'll be no need for a PS5. But that's not what it looks like is going to happen.

Desktop PCs are a dying breed and hardly anyone uses them outside of offices. Even if people work with computers at home, they use laptops (most often without dedicated GPU). Xbox is a cheaper gaming option than building a second PC just for vidya.

the main factor in picking a console is "which ecosystem am I already bought into"? Most people this gen bought PS4s. They can take that entire library with them onto PS5. Why the fuck would they give that up to buy an Xbox? All this talk about backwards compatibility seems to miss that. Nobody fucking bought an Xbox One and nobody bought Xbox One games. The amount of people excited to play their Xbox games at faster framerates and higher resolutions are laughably small.
