Played this shortly after launch but ended up dropping it. I played warrior then and it was but got samey and only 3 moves was frustrating. Gonna finally give this a full go. Thinking of playing mystic knight or magick archer, suggestions?

Absolutely best girl.

Warriors are fun early game, but as you mention lacks a lot of what other classes get.
MK is fun if you like perfect blocking and avoid Cannon. Cannon can be a lifesaver at certain points, but it gets stale fast, as you just hit an orb and kill everything. Fighter is also fun as you have a lot of fun attacks, and get perfect blocking as well. Magick Archer I don't have too much experience with, they seem fun. Just experiment, as stats go you can't really mess things up, statwise, especially if you try a lot of different classes.

This game is about switching classes often. I advice giving warrior a chance, maybe just to level him and grab some augments (passive skills) that can be useful for a melee-orientated mystic knight. This goes also for the fighter, which can be a fun class and has some good things for shield-usage.
For the record: I'm not advising to do the play-100-levels-this-class-to-play-other-class. However it's good to grab some augments from other classes. This goes for magick archer as well. He can make some use of sorcerer and strider leveling. Magick archer can be really fun and overpowered, with a lot of tools and some of the more ridiculous skills.

Stop fucking my pawn waifu

Anyone have any experience with ranger and strider pawns? Which do you prefer? Is one more useful than the other for BBI?

I haven't had a strider in a long time, put I can vouch for ranger pawns. They hit with aimbot accuracy and do well just dishing out damage. Mitigator/challenger inclination is a good one to have for them. Strider pawns apparently can also be great.

Kinda depends on what you are fighting. I've seen Striders delete dragons in seconds. But I think Rangers, that know how to play ranged, are better overall. I dunno if you only want the 10-arrow-fire, or gambit and those others.

I've been seeing almost daily Dragon's Dogma threads on here recently.

And that's great because I love the game ever since it first came out on 360.

I'm going full melee on my current character but I'm not sure whether to stay fighter or warrior. I know the jist of playing a warrior, use eminence with jump attacks and exodus slash to avoid hits, charge up arc or lash when you get an opening. I've also discovered the sanctuary augment that basically makes you invincible once you drop to red health which covers for the lack of defensive options.

I'm wondering what an endgame fighter build looks like? Surely it's not just chugging vim and spamming dragon's maw? My old playthroughs I always went with yellow classes so actually staying a fighter for the whole game is unknown territory to me.

Dragon’s Maw is probably gonna see a lot of use either way, it’s ridiculously good. That being said, you’re not required to use it and there are some really fun, satisfying abilities for Fighter. Hindsight Slash is actually one of the strongest single-hit attacks in the game if you get the bonus damage from properly dodging with it.

I just did the basegame with two fighters, and it was really fun. I don't like Dragons Maw just because it's a bit braindead, but I equpied it for stuff like cockatrice and such. Even Broad Slash, who I didn't test early was fun to use, albeit a bit situational, it was fun to use, if not the most damaging. The Launcher I've always had on for damage and such. It's great against anything. I also really liked the ground stab, it does a lot of damage, albeit a bit slow. Being only two members I was overleveled for most of the time. I think I might throw in a Mage for BBI, if only to lessen the menu-healing, which got bad only at everfall

Why does frazil seem to do so little? I can blast a goblin with a base fireball and it does 75% of the hp but grand frazil does piddly dmg even if I walk around with it going for 5+ seconds.
And as we all know, their kind hates ice and fire both.

>Frazil and High Frazil work in the same way: once cast, the spellcaster is surrounded by a circular area of cold that does not damage but may inflict freezing on foes within in.
no damage. use frigor

Ah, I'm just stupid. Thanks

this comic always makes me smile

Unfortunately, that never happened to me.

Rangers are better if you're a red vocation and like to getting in close yourself without it getting too crowded, look for those with Pioneer inclinations if you want someone to really stay away, and with lots of bow and stamina augments to keep them using their daggers. Striders are great if you're a mid-ranger character yourself, especially if you're a Sorceror with Fulmination, since they like to climb. Both are good, but for different reasons.

But they do need training, like knowing to shoot for the head or what to do against specific enemies, so if you find one that's good, favorite it. And don't mind the level gap too much; good pawns are more important than levels. I still regularly use a level 20 Mage, because she has all the right spells, training and inclinations.

Hindsight Sweep does more damage and for less stamina, especially against enemies that attack more often, like in BBI. Personally like to use Burst Strike for knockdown and mobility, Antler Toss for multi-hit/semi-guard break/air toss and then Hindsight Sweep for strong solo bosses. Full Moon and Dragon's Maw are good, but against stronger enemies that you can't just bunch up and then delete, they seem like a waste.

For shield, Cymbal is a must because it's blunt damage and rounds out your sword. Then Shield Storm if you really want a guard break(which means you can replace Antler Toss) or Sheltered Fusillade. Divine Defense is a bit of a meme, but if you get caught out in a really shit situation, it can be fucking great.

Good to know, I was actually thinking of doing a yellow Arisen, yellow pawn run where I'd be either a Strider/Ranger and so would my pawn. I haven't been able to decide between which, but I also figure both vocations would both benefit from the same builds anyway so they'll be easy to swap between.

BBI is so much more fun when you actually have levels for it, instead of tickling / blast arrowing / fall damaging / spamming periapts on things you need to kill and running past everything else. Fact.

Flatty begone

I prefer Ranger pawns, mostly because Strider Pawns are just for dagger skills and climbing. Ranger can help with flying targets, or precision targets. Mine is loaded up with only bow skills so I get the most out of her.

Do you never encounter your pawn trying to punch stuff without daggers? I was doing some research and I saw some people recommending to do what you do, but others recommending against it because of that. Also, don't Striders have some really strong bow skills that rangers don't get, like Hailstorm Volley?

Very rarely have I ever seen that, but that might be when her inclinations are slipping up. Overall she uses exclusively ranged attacks.

I love my strider pawn. She deletes stuff if she ever decides to use brain splitter, and she uses fracture dart pretty often. Honestly, I don't know how to build one, and I feel like maybe she has a lot of conflicting skills, what with adhesion + hundred kisses, brain splitter, and bow skills. I can't remember her inclinations off the top of my head, I think it's scather and mitigator/challenger.

So far I've done Quina, Madeleine, and Mercedes as beloved. Who should I go for on my next playthrough?

Does she tend to focus more on melee or bow? I've heard Fracture Dart is extremely powerful if it hits, but it's also easy for it to miss/hit ceilings and stuff.

Forhead perfect for flicking.

am I the only one that thinks dragon's dogma would have been better as a turn-based game?
