The game really isn't that hard, even when it was first released. I've only ever had a game over to the chapter 2 boss, and that was it. The reason for most of the negative reviews on steam was that on release it was probably one of the buggiest games I've ever played. You literally couldn't finish the game, assuming the game didn't break several of the main quests beforehand, encounters could break, companions could break, etc.
