Well most of the ones that survived to today were probably the more ornate and over the top ones, but they did design weapons with some mysticism in mind. Like I'm sure you've seen the daggers with metal dicks on them? The people who made them believed everything had a spirit, and a weapon with a male spirit in it would be stronger than one with a female spirit so they gave the weapons dicks to better attract the right kind.
