Yeah I'll give you that. They were pretty great, but kinda one-trick pony; once you know Lurantis' only strategy is to try and OHKO you, it's easy to prevent it.

Mantine surfing is pure unfiltered dogshit. Bottlecaps are a band-aid solution that permanently highlight your Pokémon's imperfect stat. I liked Pokepelago though, so I concede there.

The problem with that is that it's literally impossible. Lillie is shoved in your face every two seconds and holds your hand and drowns you and cutscenes through the entire fucking game. That's not even it though.
RotomDex is an awful gimmick, Ultra Beasts were completely squandered, the Post Game is piss poor once again, the framerate is absolutely abysmal for a modern video game released past the 90s, trials being a downgrade from gyms that result in the game being significantly more linear, Festival Plaza being a strict downgrade from the PSS, the National Dex was cut for the first time ever in a main series game, etc. etc. etc.

It just seems obvious to me. It's one of those things that you can tell Game Freak haven't even thought about one time, because programming it would take almost no time at all. It'd effectively change about three uses of a certain graphic in the game.
Game Freak like to pretend they're really on it with quality of life improvements, but they're really not. Pokepelago is fine, but it's needlessly obtuse compared to what they COULD have done instead. Another example is the PSS, which was absolutely perfect and should have become the standard of Pokemon online interfaces, compared with the Festival Plaza which is a travesty.

I think the gen 7 dex is one of the weaker ones to be honest. Whole lot of soft, cutesy shit, and waifumons. Of course I'm not against cute stuff, but it feels like designs you're SUPPOSED to think are cute, rather than ones that are just cute. Cutiefly, for example. Kind of turns me off on them.
Even my favorite of the gen feels like a parasect knockoff.
