>2020
>still no spirtual successor
what games are like Final Fantasy 1 where I can shape my party fromthe start and play the game that way?
2020
this is mostly an old WRPG thing
Western RPGs.
Ultima 3 being the closest.
are you retard? countless CRPGs/dungeon crawlers.
I recc. starting with the Wizardry series
western art styles look soulless though
Etrian Odyssey
How is this soulless?
Dragon Warrior/Quest III
Any games with this much soul on PC? And by that I mean relatively recent and not just emulating.
too old, already played
looking for a more modern take
let me know if you find any good examples
jrpgs with class based character creation seem pretty rare
Final Fantasy III but you just pull from the first batch of crystal jobs (which are the same as the FF1 jobs minus thief), and then you can "upgrade" each of them to their superiors (eg Fighter -> Knight) if you want.
original saga series for gb and its remakes
There is an FF1 spiritual successor. Its called Final Fantasy The Four Heroes of Light. Theres also BD, FFV and III.
Wasteland 2 (& 3 probably)
Wizardry 8 (or older)
Japanese Wizardys, like Labyrinth of Lost Souls.
Any Exile/Avernum game
Mostly CRPG stuff, though.
not much
the older wizardry games have jap versions with good art
The NES port of Ultima Exodus might be worth looking into if you've already played all the FF/DQs
so nothing modern huh
Etrain Odyssey series (DS and 3DS)
7th Dragon series (DS, PSP, and 3DS)
You mean FF3?
how is etrian odyssey not modern
he wants fixed classes
see
how is four heroes of light?
Dragon Quest Nine
Holy shit the MSX version looks beautiful
Dragon Quest 6
Icewind Dale
to much waifu
good thing you can make your parties of dudes
Devs wont make it cause that type of game doesnt sell well. You'll have to find a reall autistic passionate dev who likes those games and does it for himself.
Romancing SaGa 1, Romancing SaGa 2, Romancing SaGa 3
not him but I am not really a big fan of first-person dungeon exploration and just don't like the game aesthetically. The mechanics are pretty cool, though. I would love wizardry games in a 16-bit sprite-based style like pic related
what gamu
I've beat this game before and I don't know why. Ultima III is one of the meanest rpgs I've ever played. The NES port fixes a lot of issues the original had but introduces a whole slew of new ones.
