No it's for people who don't want the games on said consoles to fail to be preserved.

I would not be able to play some of the most important games from my childhood if it weren't for emulation since they are no longer for sale and my old consoles are broken.

I'm indifferent to it. I prefer to play games in their original medium, but if people don't want to they're free to use emulators. Personally I think something intangible is lost when you use an emulator. It feels soulless.

Rom dumping and specially disk dumping is a necessary evil.
Things are supposed to go to public domain, and if you don't dump em and preserve em, they disappear, turn into lost media and are never allowed to enter public domain ever.

Emulation is cool and good because it's some of the only dedicated archival for video games you ca find.

IMO all game devs should have to submit a copy of source code to a specific archival institution.
