OH NO NO NO NO NO KOJIMBO IS BACK How will you al COPE now Zig Forums ?
>How did Death Stranding perform sales-wise? Kojima: “We surpassed the amount we needed to make a profit, so I think it sold well enough to be called a ‘success,’ recoupment of development costs included. We’ll release the PC version soon and have already secured enough profit to prepare for what’s next, so there’s no need to worry.” >To prepare for what’s next…? Kojima: “I can’t say anything since it’s still in the planning stages, but we’re doing various work behind the scenes. Just recently, a big project fell apart, so I’m a bit upset about that (laughs). Well, that sort of thing happens often in this industry.” >Do you know anything about recent rumors to acquire the copyrights to Metal Gear Solid and P.T.? Kojima: “Ah, that’s completely false. I haven’t heard anything about it at least (laughs).”
Is anyone actually surprised? It was an insanely hyped up game, there was almost no chance it flopped to a degree people were hoping, if only because of day 1/launch sales.
Eli Collins
that just means they didnt lose money and investors got fuck-all back from their investment who is gonna invest in this hack now
Jeremiah Sanchez
I for one LOVED the game, and KNEW that it was doing fine, because I actually research my shit instead of listening to ESL-spics with a hate boner against good vidya.
When the PC port finally arrives, you can bet your ass that the sales will double.
William Russell
Me.
Tyler Moore
>profit secured for next title apparently they don't need it.
I have never seem a game deemed as a "success" refuse this much to show its actual sale numbers, even Kojima himself avoids mentioning sales figures and just vaguely say they "recouped development costs". So what? We don't know even how much this game cost (probably a considerable amount given the Hollywood talent in it), so that still doesn't give us a sales margin. You surpassed the amount to not be considerable a flop if you managed to recover dev costs, not the amount to be considered a sales hit, thats for sure.
Jackson Price
> Sal Romano This retardera faggot again?
Nolan Campbell
>probably a considerable amount given the Hollywood talent in it Lol
Jordan Young
I liked it as well, it was at least different than any other titled I've played in several years. Most of Zig Forums is pretty consistently disconnected from what will actually be successful or not, mostly due to autism and deeply rooted insecurities that encourage lashing out at anything they personally don't like.
Nigga just needs to buy a nice 4k video camera and make the 2deepforyou art house movie he needs to make so he can stop breaking my heart with his subtlety of a hammer you wouldn't understand, you will regret judging her if only you knew video games.
>massive drop in sales after the first few weeks HOLY SHIT BLUNDER IT'S LITERALLY EVERY GAME EVER MADE BLUNDER BLUNDER BLUNDER BLUNDER HOLY SHIT FUCKING RUINED IT'S OVER
Cooper Lee
At guess this is your last resort now. Shouldn't you checking the new pachinko cards?
Joshua Baker
sounds like they barely made enough profit for another title, seems like the definition of a "Pyrrhic victory" to me another "success" like Death Stranding and he's fucked
God of War, Spider-Man and even Detroit: Become Human (you know, the Sony exclusives that actually SOLD) all managed to keep topping sales charts months after they respective releases.
But keep fooling yourself into believing that dropping out of the top 20 on their second month of release is something "every game ever made" does, imbecile.
Daniel Reyes
>We surpassed the amount we needed to make a profit aka the investors got their cut.
Asher Turner
That's not what you said at all. You said it had a drop in sales. As did all those games. Or are you saying the hundreds of thousands of sales dropped off the face of the planet for spiderman somehow don't count?
Asher Collins
I unironically plan to buy it again if there is mod potential, the map was too small.
Jayden Gonzalez
Yes, they got 5 bucks for a 5 year wait. Riveting. I'm sure there's a line out the door of people wanting to invest in his next project.
Levi Edwards
>even Detroit: Become Human (you know, the Sony exclusives that actually SOLD) daf of boy i can at least fathom people buying but if detroit of all things is in there what the fuck
Blake Harris
why do people still parrot the "kojima makes movie games" autism? literally the only movie game he has ever made was MGS4, the big complaint with MGSV was that it didn't have enough story.
Adrian Garcia
>“We surpassed the amount we needed to make a profit, so I think it sold well enough to be called a ‘success,’ recoupment of development costs included
If the best thing you can say about your game regarding sales is "it covered development costs" half a fucking year later, then that's when you know it didn't meet their expectations at all. It definitely didn't succeed as much as they wanted.
That's what happens when you give a Kojima a blank check and 4 years of hype for a boring ass movie game.
And the PC release is yet to come, right? More money. Kojima is weird as fuck but I'm curious about whatever he might concoct next.
Anthony Rodriguez
The Steve Jobs of videogames wins again. The creativity.
Oliver Bennett
>a big project fell apart I hope that wasn't the rumoured horror game he was working on Regardless of how you find his stories, kojima's games tend to have pretty great atmosphere's and I think it would transfer well to a horror game
Ethan Hill
It was a great game. I'm glad it appeared to have done well. The insane amount of shitposting against it here was frustrating, and convinced me that it's more about Kojima than the game itself. What did Kojima do to draw the wrath of the autists?
Alexander James
He should just make a Souls like game
Jose Wright
I'm imagining it was relating to the other game kojipro was working on during the latter portions of death stranding's development. I can't find the article but there was an interview where he mentioned they were planning on making that their next "large" release for the company.
Elijah Foster
>What did Kojima do to draw the wrath of the autists? be a public figure but up until like a few months before the game came out we didn't even have a vague idea about the genre of the game, let alone any details. It was just "what drug trip is kojima going to give us a trailer for next"
Adrian Fisher
Copies were being sold at a big discount literally one month after release. Couldn't they be lying? I liked the game and everything, currently have 200 + hours on it but I know a bunch of people didn't like it at all.
Hunter Rogers
Surprise, it doesn't matter whether people like it, people bought it day 1. The first like two weeks of sales are the most important, especially for a game without dlc like death stranding. What you see is what you get, so people who wanted it bought it. Anything after the fact is just extra. Note how the article in op doesn't say anything about WHEN it was profitable. For all we know it was profitable day 1. Unlikely sure but that's my fucking point. We don't know. It's pointless to speculate.
Xavier Johnson
unironically yes, there is, as Kojimbo can sell flaming shit and people will buy it on his name alone.
Luke Anderson
I bet 100 bucks next time we see Kojimbo will be on kickstarter.
Brayden Hughes
>profitable >recouped costs
Nolan Thomas
>discount merely weeks after launch >7 months later >"the sales it covered dev costs" >still no sales numbers Ouch
