Why is the cutoff for /vr/ 1999? What happened in 2000?

Why is the cutoff for /vr/ 1999? What happened in 2000?
It just doesn't make sense to me. When people say "PS2 and GameCube are 20 years old", /vr/ responds by saying "it's not about age, it's about a period in time". So, what's the period?

Attached: 1586212575091.png (400x80, 25.97K)

It's convenient, a bunch of stuff changed as 2000 arrived, the 6th Gen arrived though Dreamcast is late 1999 in Japan.

It's retarded gate keeping.
They can say PS2 isn't retro now but give it 10-20 years and the internet as a whole would call it retro.

Dreamcast came out in 1998 in Japan.

just make /v2k/ 2000 - 2009

So Super Smash Bros. Melee and Vice City belong in the same category as Gears of War and Assassin's Creed? Hell no.
Melee and Vice City should be lumped in with 90s games.

bump

turn of the millennium

So Biggie Smalls has more in common with Beethoven than he does with 50 Cent? Is that what you're saying?

Zig Forums is cancer and the cutoff keeps Zig Forumsirgins out, like it should.

>REEE LET US TALK ABOUT THE PS2 IT'S RETRO NOW
>REEE LET US TALK ABOUT THE PS3 IT'S RETRO NOW
>REEE LET US TALK ABOUT THE PS4 IT'S RETRO NOW
do you not see the problem here?

But why 2000? This guy claims it's because of the turn of the millennium, but I demolished that argument here

If you let ps2 shit in then you're gonna get a bunch of dumb zoomies demanding you let them talk about the ps3 and they are already getting nostalgic for gen 7 shit is getting ridiculous you gotta draw the line somewhere

/vr/ should have never existed.

>What happened in 2000?
that's when /vr/ posters were born
for them retro means games released before their birth

>(You)ing your own post to say you demolished an argument

cringe

Would make more sense to have it be 2000-2006.

Nah, Gears of War came out in 2006. /vr/ should put the cutoff at 2004.

Fuck off zoomer.

If it had online capabilities it's not retro.

So the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast aren't retro.

Correct. If they allow it (I dunno, I never visit) they're filthy niggers and hypocrites and I hope someone takes their vinyl collection and shoves them in their stuck-up cunts.

What the fuck is the point of /vr/ if people keeps taling about 90's games here?
We had a super mario 64 emulator thread for weeks

Attached: 1590686882389.jpg (1024x1024, 56.73K)

makes perfect sense

So basically only a few shitty Nintendo consoles are retro. Even the Atari 2600 wouldn't be retro since you could download games off the internet for it. Nice meme definition.

Thanks, you can keep it.

it's a tranny contaiment, just like /vg/ and /vp/.

>hurrr hurf it 2d so it retro
retard

So what makes something retro?

/vr/ is a filter for pretentious sacks who hugg the smell of their own shit. Zig Forums has enough fagginess already.

This is explained on literally the first post in /vr/.

Yeah, before 2000. Why? What happened in 2000? What makes 2000 a special year?

YIIK references it so it made it cringe and everything that followed too.

People who like video games made after 2000 are generally cretins and the mods and users of /vr/ agreed it would be a good idea to exclude them from the board.

>MGS2 isn't retro
Fuck this shit, it's near over 20 years now

I respect that, I also would like to have a place to discuss things made before 2010. It's all shit afterwards.

It doesn't really feel retro, it was ahead of the time to with all the technology and silky smooth FPS.

I agree with that but the format of this site doesn't work well with the idea of categorizing video game discussion separately for every decade of video games and /vr/ probably wasn't made with much forethought.

Good.

Why can't you cope with the fact that time moves on without your demand? I mean for fucks sakes we already got mid 2000s nostalgia going on

How long until you realize times moves on? when the PS2 reaches over 80 years old? there's a reason /vr/ is almost barren, and 70% of the bumps are from Doom general. I honestly don't get how you guys can keep saying it's not retro no matter how old

Attached: 1435784567759.jpg (545x472, 41.44K)

>people hate /vr/ now
what happened?

>SNES was retro in 2005
>PS2 isn't retro in 2020
Peak logic right there

NEVER EVER, MELEEFAGS

Attached: image69.png (302x282, 196.87K)

Yeah, personally I don't really see the reason behind /vr/ either. It's more video games than /vp/ or /vg/ - which is mostly gacha and discord drama on top of cancer.

dead board with a rule that doesn't last in a long run. You can't discuss 2000-2009 games on Zig Forums and you can't discuss it on /vr/ so there's a void

People want to actually discuss games, and you can only discuss games on /vr/ and a scant few /vg/ threads. As such, fans of post-1999 games are mad since they will never be able to properly discuss their games.

Have you maybe considered that no one on /vr/ wants to talk about gen 6 and that you don't deserve to join the sekret club just because you think your offtopic subject should be allowed in the discussion?

>People want to actually discuss games
That are already done to death. Meanwhile I can't discuss ANY of the niche games post-1999 because Zig Forums is too fast and full of shitposting and /vr/ doesn't allow it

Attached: 1453526066594.jpg (259x240, 56.46K)

Zoomers. Couple of years ago you couldn't post on this website if you weren't born in 199x. Now majority of the userbase was born past 2000 and they know they're trash and aren't allowed on /vr/ just like those games made after 2000.

>You can't discuss 2000-2009 games on Zig Forums
I wish. Fucking HL/TF2 fags everywhere.

>Couple of years ago you couldn't post on this website if you weren't born in 199x
Buddy, according to all the meta threads on Zig Forums, most of you fucks came to this site under 16 years old

Attached: 1453602017811.jpg (640x482, 30.9K)

Nes had online capabilities

>What happened in 2000?
A millennium ended.

I really want to hear what's the next excuse from /vr/ when the fucking 360 turns 30 years old. We're already halfway through

/vr/ is just a bad case of "muh sekrit club" that is no different than Resetera

Attached: 1370402878767.png (379x369, 223.46K)

>You can't discuss 2000-2009 games on Zig Forums
>Implying

sekrit clubs are good and the loss of them explains much of this website's shittiness.

NES, SNES, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcasr are all disqualified then.
/vr/ is for PS1, N64, and CRT threads only

2000 is the most continent cutoff point. And mods there tend to be fast and loose with that rule, as you can talk about Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, which came out in 2002. Generally, if you're talking about 5th gen or earlier, you're fine.

/vr/ should eventually expand to include games up to 2010 and then be left at that forever. Nothing good has been made after that and I doubt the upcoming decade will prove me wrong on that.

It's honestly even worse than that, I started posting here in 2008 when I was 12 ffs. This place has always had a healthy amount of underage b& users

Like they always say, the home board is the worst place to discuss its main topic in
/vr/ fucking sucks for retro

>talk about any other board on Zig Forums
>hurr muh sekrit club muh gatekeeping
>5 minutes later
>why is Zig Forums so shit bros I don't understand

I like secret clubs, so good for them.

keyword here is "bad case". Learn to read please

So once again, Biggie Smalls has more in common with Beethoven than he does with 50 Cent.

"muh sekrit club" didn't stop /vr/ from being terrible.

>/vr/ is just a bad case of "muh sekrit club"
the way you wrote it sounds like it's a severe example of something bad. Use 'bad side' next time.
