you niggas is dumb

this game unironically really made me think

This but unironically.

> game has interesting philosophical premise that could have had deep discussion on clones and the identity of self
> main protag is dumb as bricks and fails to understand the core problem until it's too late and he's fucked himself without any real input on his part to the outcome
> player doesn't get to make any of the key choices regarding cloning, just watches the protag bumble around with no input or consequence
this game could have been so much stronger if they wrote a smart protag and gave the player agency around these important cloning/consciousness decisions and let you actually pick what to do

To quote all the pretentious Faggots that champion Spec Ops: The Line...

...you always had a choice, just stop playing the game you bought

Spec Ops is the opposite of pretentious, though.

> just watch as see the clone die instead of arriving at the conclusion of what copying might mean and make the decision yourself you mong, god forbid you arrive at the conclusion yourself of a different one

Spec Ops itself isn't very pretentious, but the fanbase can't help but cum in their own mouths about how its owning the cawadooty kids because america bad this time.

The pseudointellectual circlejerk of journalists and redditors is the driving force behind its commercial failure.

It was garbage. I got it for free and still felt ripped off.

>pseudointellectual circlejerk of journalists and redditors is the driving force behind its commercial failure.
Explain how Nier: Automata was a success, then.

It was phenomenal. I paid $60 and it was totally worth it.

More like you got filtered.

was this something that was a popular opinion on other sites, because since the game's release I never saw anyone really arguing this for spec ops, but always see this when the game is brought up.
which I find weird because there's so much more to complain about.

Meant for

please tell me you're not that stupid. please don't tell me you think the pseudo-intellectual story telling was the reason automata was popular and not anime robot ass

Didnt the main protag have actual brain damage? No wonder he's not the brightest bulb.

Spec Ops didnt have a coomer demographic offsetting sales of merit.

That was fucking easy, next.

He didn't have any power in the outcome, though. I just wish he wasn't so fucking retarded, it would be a more potent ending if he had already pondered over the 50/50 when she introduced the idea of them being copied and realized what that meant rather than shouting in the last 5 seconds before cutting to black.

Also didn't really like the evil goo monster and sea monsters, might've been because it would've been too much of a walking simulator, but the isolation and the fact everyone you meet is either out of their minds or begging for death would be way worse if there was no scary black goo, fish or apparition.

the original scan was him coming in to get his brain tumor checked on, unless they scanned him again after an attempted brain surgery or something, he was just stupid, not mentally stunted.

It was the dominant opinion among reviewers and critics. Unsurprisingly, they wanted to overhype the game's premise as an excuse to wank themselves off and make it sound like they were doing something more important than reviewing vidya for a living.

I cant account for you missing the wave, sorry.

might not be that philosophical, but end roll and hello charlotte fucked me up

There's nothing wrong with reviewing vidya for a living.

even having and option to attempt to fix the WAU or decide to send the capsule with his copy into space would have been a better ending, I feel like the writers completely wrote off the idea of artificially constructed bodies copies of consciousness in them as an ending when it had so much potential. The fish was dumb and the apparition was out of place for sure though

300k+ polygons

wait wait wait wait, doesn't he send his copy into space in the end? I distinctively remember him whining he was in the rocket before he launched and the deuteragonist lady trying to get the idea of 50/50 introduced earlier through his head. so much you get an extra scene where he "meets" her in the rocket simulation.

thanks. if they were youtube links that were often posted then that's probably why, otherwise I must have wetbrain.

This ~50 hour long beast VN tackles more concepts than you could imagine. Even if you're like me and you're not well read enough to be very familiar with most of the references, I can assure you that you can love this game all the same. The story in SubaHibi is more about themes than plot, so don't be one of those many fools that only focuses on the latter. In fact, plot-wise, you could accuse SubaHibi of containing quite a large amount of inanity, but I don't care. In the end, I have to say, that it's the most profound thing I've ever read in my life. Indeed, I think it is good to prepare for that the game isn't all "highbrow", but it is quite remarkable how SCA-JI does all this crazy shit, throws in shock factor, bullying, horror, suicide, and somehow makes it into a life-affirming, sometimes heartwarming game with some light entertainment "mainstream eroge appeal" along the way so that it can be enjoyed by a wide variety of people. Of course, the catch is that some parts could be a real turn-off depending on your tastes. I doubt a lot of people are going to love all parts of SubaHibi, but the beauty is that it aspires to do so much that you can forgive it when it doesn't quite get it right. For me, I think most of it is superb, but I think there are some notable low points. The insects chapter is frustrating for me because the style of bullying is definitely real, but the execution doesn't feel as real for various reasons, and its exhausting and repetitive nature just serves to magnify this problem. Also, don't give up on the first chapter. The first chapter is meant to be the way it is, and I did find it quite bad for the most part on my first read. But then it hits you with the Galactic Railroad ending, one of the greatest things ever, and from here SubaHibi really begins. Trust me though, there is much significance to the first chapter, which makes it beautiful in retrospect.

You can review vidya for a living without being a sad sack.

...in abstract.

In practice, I encourage you to picture the archetype of a gaming journalist:

A physically meek type with a superiority complex, but can't prove it to themselves because they're still rarely the smartest person in the room, even in sad settings.

Take a life time of being accurately estimated as less than their self-evaluation, pair it with student debt and paying it off with a job that nobody respects, and what do you get?

The perfect storm for sucking your own dick when you're given a platform to interpret someone else's work to an audience.

yeah, that's what I said. I would have preferred that you get to pic between sending a copy into space or trying to learn how the wau works to fix it and possibly return to the surface with robot body copies to try and keep "humanity" alive. just watching as he copies himself and dooms himself to whining at the bottom of the ocean sucks

Horror games like SOMA are underrated because they emphasize trying to make the player emotionally feel something beyond over-reaction videos on youtube.
