Pocky & Rocky is such a great series.

Same.

Yeah I pretty much only emulate nowadays.

Honestly, just feel like playing Pocky & Rocky these days

How's the GBA one? Was thinking of what to play next on my Vita

I do, I just spend way more time emulating. Catching up on a lot of games I never finished; it's pretty enjoyable.

The GBA game is not terrific. Certainly not as good as the SNES games.

Pocky and Rocky 1 and 2 are both kino. You’re playing some good shit. I heard rumours of a remaster. Anyone know about that?

Pocky and Rocky is a lot of fun. Used to play this coop with a coworker when we had free time.

I mostly play older games now, along with some modern multiplayer games. I'll still play newer stuff if it interests me, this is just how it worked out. So far this year I've play FFVII Remake and Death Stranding, that's about it. I haven't played western AAA games in a long time.

less and less

Same. I can't believe for 3 years straight I've been playing nothing but multiplayer focused esport games and AAA cancer. I really thought I didn't enjoy games anymore because of this, until I decided to download emulators to play old games I haven't played in 20 years. I realized that my taste didn't change at all and I always loved video games, it's just that they mostly suck nowadays

the only new games I really buy are indies because a handful of those at least try to do new things and aren't full of the same usual horseshit. I occasionally want something more AAA but never give in. It just isn't worth the price these days.

It's a mix of Team Fortress 2, indie games (mostly roguelites), CRPGs and SNES/ PS1 games.

I've been emulating 5th and 6th generation games lately, but I'm not opposed to new games.

This looks pretty cool. Maybe I should get into old shooters.

I only play
>retro games
>indie games
>the occasional AAA Japanese game if it interests me (Super Mario Odyssey, Persona 5, Three Houses, Death Stranding, Kingdom Hearts III, DQ11 etc.)
I've been going through Silent Hill 1. It's great and aged really well in my opinion. Level design and pacing is on point. The short sewer level was the only part of the game that has felt merely "just ok" so far.

Fuck Western AAA games, they are literally all shit.

What retro games are you playing right now?

Hmm, well this year I've beat 41 games so far, lets break down the years.

1989: 1
1990: 1
1993: 1
1994: 1
1997: 2
2000: 1
2001: 1
2002: 1
2003: 2
2004: 1
2005: 2
2006: 2
2009: 1
2010: 1
2011: 1
2013: 2
2014: 1
2015: 1
2016: 1
2017: 5
2018: 3
2019: 6
2020: 2

I guess I do slant a bit towards newer releases.

I had a similar revelation.
I thought I had grown to hate videogames and that my past love for them was merely nostalgia.
But then I had the idea to play the old classics I didn't get to play back then and rediscovered my love for vidya,It wasn't nostalgia since I never played these, and I didn't hate videogames I just can't get into the new ones.

I'm going to replay Dark Savior soon. Haven't played since I was a kid and never finished all the paths.

Pocky and Rocky will be the next Natsume remaster.

>teehee I'm so cool and quirky only playing old boomer games

But user, I am the old boomer

Can't confirm, but I wouldn't be that surprised if it happened we already got remasters of Wild guns and The ninja warriors which were both developed by Natsume as well so it seems possible

Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.

Please god

Yes, but there are only 1-2 proper games per season.
Helltaker and Trails of mana for example are the only games that i have played in 2020.

Had the same happen to me. A lot of modern single player games are too easy for their own good and the live service multiplayer esports bullshit is its own brand of cancer, but games up to the 5th gen just get it right. There's a few exceptions in all regards but as a whole I just find retro gaming incredibly rewarding, and I never properly played most of these games up until now anyways.
Finished 100%ing Klonoa and it was great fun. Thinking about playing Alundra next.

Mostly. The only modern games I play are indie games, because they're the ones that typically are actually videogames or try to innovate genres. For example, two indie games I've played a lot recently are Jet Lancer and One Step from Eden, the former of which is an amazing twin stick shooter and the latter is a modern day Mega Man Battle Network, except much better and more challenging.

Otherwise, I just stick to emulating older titles or just playing some MAME arcade games. I'm sick of modern day gaming conventions, like unskippable cutscenes, 1,001 DLC purchases chopped off from the main game or politics.

Alundra is great. Some of the puzzles get really tough, but it's very satisfying once you finally figure them out.
