the stories are mostly pretty self-contained honestly
although 5 follows on from 4 in a way moreso than others but you'll still be fine

You'll probably enjoy them more if you managed to suffer through 6.

Why are you assuming that this one is the best? 5 is the best out of the ones not released on PC and you do kind of need to play 4 to enjoy the story.

3 is painful to play through but it's the last time the series had a good final boss
4 is alright, just rush the story
5 is the best game in the series and you should do everything in it because 6 is shit compared to it

I did that play order. 3 is a bit disappointing overall and all of them are a bit clunkier than you'd like. 4 and 5 have really good side characters though. Tanimura and Shinada carried those games for me.
