As a relatively high-IQ individual(138) myself I've found that video games are a medium mostly for adolescents, I find myself more drawn towards movies and music(hip hop excluded) as I'm closing in on 30 years of age.
Now this does not mean that I will forego giving the ol' Mario or Metroid the occasional spin, far from it. Though it will not be done to with the same fervor as was done in my adolescence, I will still put on a good platformer or old school CRPG if the craving hits.
The probability of that game being a SNES classic, or something from the old DOSBOX is just slightly higher than if I were to put on Link to the Past or Baldur's Gate II.
There are still days where I find myself yearning for some Witcher or Souls Games but alas, just as my hand starts shaking in anticipation of the finger athletics that is about to commence, I find myself looking inside the sleeves of my progressive rock records instead.
Now I'm not saying that the possibility of me playing The Last of Us 2 is out of the window just yet, it's just that whenever I find myself knocking on that door, the ones that open are never video games but rather a good action movie, like Fight Club.
