How in the fuck did this franchise survive after that? How in the fuck do all of these games have defenders? Is it literally ONLY because people like Sonic and Sonic's character design or something? How is this possible? Are people really this fucking braindead retarded?

unironically the franchise is still alive because of the music

>Mania is good
git gud

I don't think Mania is that fun to play. I get the consensus is that it's good, that doesn't affect me much however. I wish I could see why everyone jerks it off so much.

Forces is most certainly not good.
It's painfully mediocre which is almost more insulting than being bad.

>>Sonic Adventure

Only 1 of them is shit, the rest are really good and honestly better than their counterparts in SA2. Sounds like you just got filtered, casual piece of excrement.

>Is it literally ONLY because people like Sonic and Sonic's character design or something?
Pretty much. He's an iconic character, so even if the games are shitty there's always going to be some people who buy them just because Sonic is on the box. Plus sales of merch probably helps too

>the rest are really good
Really? Tails is good? You're going to stick up for Tails? How about Amy? Yeah, sure love playing as Amy and her stages are so much fun. Knuckles and Gamma are nothing but filler, they're not complex in design, they're not fun, they're barely even unique from Sonic. They add nothing of value and don't even have their own unique stages based around their abilities. At least in Adventure 2, even though the gameplay styles were still pointless filler, they at least tried to elevate them beyond that.

Sonic was never good. Its premise and gameplay formula is fundamentally flawed, hence why Sega can't get it consistently right.

It's basically a fan tribute to Sonic and Knuckles that is polished enough that it makes every Sonic hack besides Axiom look like trash. It's not really close the former due to how much of it is recycled zones and fanservice but the best we're probably going to get this century.

I don't find much enjoyment playing Sonic 3&K either and don't understand why it's so beloved

Fundamentally flawed is getting to extreme buzzword status huh?

>Knuckles and Gamma
>not complex in design
>not fun
>barely even unique
>add nothing of value
holy hyperbole
and besides replaying stages in adventure is great because each character innovates the style of gameplay

adventure 2 is mediocre as can be though, but together with heroes forms a very solid experience, the latter being a logical next step
I just wish that there was more to differentiate the levels in that game though, team rose by all acounts probably should've been either absent or missions varied from team chaotix

>holy hyperbole
Didn't know my genuine opinion could even be a hyperbole.
>replaying stages in adventure is great because each character innovates the style of gameplay
There are no characters besides Sonic who are remotely fleshed out or fun to play as. I guess Tails is a little fun because the devs were so stupid they barely designed any of the stages around his ability to fly over everything.

>Tails is good? You're going to stick up for Tails?

if your opinion is that Knuckles and Gamma aren't different styles of game than Sonic then your opinion is just ignorance
I can get not enjoying them but saying they're not fleshed out is silly, I might agree that Tails isn't as fleshed out, but everyone else, except maybe Amy, plays extremely differently

Of all the filler characters in the game, Tails is the worst because not only are his levels pitifully short because you can just fly over everything, he has to redo plenty of minigames you already did as Sonic verbatim. Plus he has another pointless snowboarding minigame. What fun. Totally not a waste of time at all.

>if your opinion is that Knuckles and Gamma aren't different styles of game than Sonic then your opinion is just ignorance
They technically are. They just happen to move practically the same as Sonic (with less movement options), go through most of the same stages as Sonic, and have some gimmick slapped on top to make it seem different. They are not fleshed out. They do not play extremely differently. I don't even know how you could genuinely have those thoughts unless you just turn your brain off entirely or feel the inexplicable need to defend the game's laziness.

Because it is the only platform game that allows you to go fast and people like going fast.

And fuck you, Adventure 2 Knuckles was great, only the sand stage was meh.

*sigh* Sonic Heroes really was the end of an era, in retrospect. Shame that so many developed the wrong impression of it since they played the inferior PS2 version, though it's not like the GCN version was top tier product or anything. It's still wholly inferior as a whole to Adventure 1+2.

Shadow, while objectively a bad game, is magnitudes better than 06 if nothing else because it's less buggy and plays much more like the Dreamcast "Trilogy" than 06 does for the most part.

If Heroes was the sign of things to come, Shadow was your last warning, and 06 sealed the deal. While Colors & Generations were solid entries and the best games since the Adventure era, it just wasn't enough to salvage, especially since inevitably SEGA would fuck up again with Boom and to a lesser extent Lost World + Forces.

Doesn't even matter that Lost World & Forces are objectively better than the stuff between Heroes & Colors.

Your forgot about the handheld series that had been going on at the same time that's been consistently good

Sonic was screwed because they took the wrong message from Unleashed. Actually great game but apparently lizuka only saw three things.

>The sassy robot was the best Sonic character ever . More popular than Shadow
>People loved the comedy and hated the intro which was the worst thing to ever happen to Sonic. No more fmvs.
>People loved that Sonic went fast, especially in the parts where you don't touch the controller at all for 2 minutes before the stage ended.

Nice bait OP. Personally I enjoyed all those games casually and SA2 is especially a kino masterpiece but really who gives a shit about video game opinions?

yea :((((((((

The story of Tails in Sonic Adventure is the quintessential coming of age story of a young boy growing into a man. It is the perfect continuation from his character arc in Sonic 2 (temporarily halted in 3 for the sake of knuckles) which is reflected in his gameplay. At the start of the game in Sonic's story, he crashes his plane and has to be rescued by Sonic which tells the player that although he has potential, he is still a child and needs saving. Throughout his story, you are racing against Sonic to prove that you can be just as good as he is as opposed to just being the tag along in Sonic 2 and 3.
After the Tornado is struck down in the first Sky Chase section, Tails now has to do things on his own which is important since it's the only time he's done anything on his own since Sonic 2's ending (a very profound moment in Sonic history) which is important for long time fans since now we get to see him come into his own, he even makes his own Chaos Emerald powered plane that's superior to Sonic's Tornado.
His perception of the world and things around him is much different to Sonic's as is plain to see through Eggman (masterful performance to the late Deem Bristow, RIP). To Sonic, Eggman is just an obstacle in the way but to Tails, he's much more like a looming fear that he believes he can't confront on his own, without Sonic which is why it means so much more for Tails to beat Eggman and save Station Square from destruction. It's not just about beating Eggman to Tails, It's about conquering your fears which connects to the player much more than the typical hero (Sonic) who isn't afraid of anything. Tackling Speed Highway against Eggman and beating the Egg Walker and saving the population of Station Square shows not just Tails, but the player that you will be rewarded for your hard work. His story isn't the best but it's still perfectly serviceable and no different from his typical 2D gameplay

Also Sand Hill was fun.

>>No more fmvs
No they stopped doing those because they required money and effort.

Its an unpolished turd that has you play the sand 3 times 4 if you have the Shadow Expansion. The game is so bad in retrospect I’m afraid Infinite and Liam O’Brians may never return. All because they released the game they did faulce advertising Choas and recycling the final Infinite fight to wank Metal Sonic hence why the fights are identical.

>The story of Tails in Sonic Adventure is
It is not necessary to read past this point, don't give a shit about the story.

>I’m afraid Infinite may never return
Cringe

>Shadow, while objectively a bad game, is magnitudes better than 06 if nothing else because it's less buggy
I'd unironically rather play 06. It's a horrifically unfinished mess but it had some good ideas. Shadow is polished and totally finished and it's still complete shit. The game was SUPPOSED to be like that.

They made an Infinite plush, they are aware that he has potential.

>don't give a shit about the story
That's a shame

Shadow was at least experimental with its 300+ endings
