I was thinking of getting Persona 5 but all I really know is that it’s a turn based rpg with social systems in contemporary japan. So, Zig Forums, tell me why YOU like persona 5 or why you don’t like it I guess. Also what is P5 royal and should I wait for that instead of playing the base game?
Persona 5
I like the presentation and style, as well as the music. It's not the most complex story, and the day to day system can feel like a slog while you wait for important shit, but I think it's solid.
It's a really slick package.
the combat is a simple 'hit weaknesses and gain extra turns for doing so' sort of thing. the fun meat of the gameplay is collecting personas and fusing them into stronger ones. there is a decent variety of skills and traits for each persona that can change your strategy too. the game isn't very hard but it is satisfying nonetheless mainly due to its excellent presentation.
It's a solid JRPG dungeon crawler with a lot of content. The presentation is really good. Some of the most polished UI in any videogame I've ever played. Music is great too.
If I did a blind playthrough and wasn’t trying to minmax or look up how to get the really good shit, is it still a satisfying combat system?
You high five your bros and ho's to make combos, that alone was enough to make me enjoy it.
I'm currently playing the original 5, but from what I've read about Royal I'd buy that instead. The worst part of 5 is that a lot of your free time is taken away by your fucking cat telling you to go to sleep.
Overall, as highly rated as it is by game journalists, I still much prefer Persona 4. The improvements are almost all merely in technical limitations such as visual effects.
Compared to the cast of 4 I couldn't care less about these characters in all honesty.
Royal adds a few story changes (and a new ending that builds off of the previous “true ending”) and adds a few new mechanics that make the game feel great imo. I’d say wait for royal, and if you can’t then maybe only play the base version and just watch the rest online.
No. It's still your barebones turn based rpg with very little combat variety.
As a matter of fact I'm playing through P5R now.
It's got a pretty gripping storyline once you let the whole "teenagers leading double lives" thing sink in.
It's also fun to read about tarot cards and think about how the representative character is a pretty good reflection of their respective tarot cards.
(Also it makes me wish I had interesting friends, all I know are potheads)
I really like the writing and the overall story. As well the relationship between the cast.
You leave your best friend to get raped by drunk gays in Shinjuku
I just emulate it on PC. 4k 30fps.
I play only 30fps because the 60fps mod can break things in the game and fuck up progression in such a way you can't progress at all
You're better off just buying Royal over the original game since it's superior in every way; even though it's more expensive.
Essentially, the appeal of the base gameplay is a fast and snappy combat system with great visuals and an addictive monster collecting / fusing mechanic. The social links act as great pallet cleansers between dungeon crawling and keep the game from being repetitive.
>superior in every way
>superior in every way
lol
P5 was shit
Just play P4 instead
>superior in every way
>hamfisted in mary sue girl in an already shitty paced story
>the 3 extra months are just there to setup Persona 5 Scramble
No thanks m8
The story, no matter the instalment, deals with the struggle of young people in the contemporary world. In this day and age it’s hard not to feel represented by that. At the same time it also deals with our insecurities and inner fears as they pertain to our generation specifically.
It’s all coated in a thick layer of anime SoL uwu bullshit, but it makes me feel like I might be able to face my many, MANY, demons.
Also ot’s a pretty hard RPG with music that fucking slaps. That helps too.
I’ve only tried emulating ps3 once before and it was completely fucked for Skate 3. I remember reading something about it running better on AMD cards?
Why I like it
>Everything is fucking cool, music, art design, UI, characters, original voice over. Can't really describe it as anything other than 'cool' or aesthetically pleasing.
>Combat is really fluid for a turn based JRPG, lots of options as well.
>Really cool Personas (which are your monsters you fight with) all around and since you can virtually get anything to 99 with max stats you can use your favorites without any issue
>some very nice minigames around town to hang out with your 2D buddies
shit I don't like
>story drags itself super hard, you have moments in which you are forced to chug through 30 minutes of cinematics
>there are a ton of moments in the game where you are railroaded badly
>incredibly easy game, the player has an insane amount of tools in his arsenal so nothing really becomes much of a challenge
>there's an infinite procedurally generated dungeon which is boring as fuck, everytime I went I felt like killing myself, P5R gives you better rewards for going in, but it is still a piece of shit
I will when Vita3K gets better emulation.
That fight was super annoying. I ended up having to put the game on Merciless in order to be able to take down the robots.
None of what you said is true and the final palace is the best one in the game. They spent the entire game building up to it.
It works fine now.
Does it have messages for how to cope with having every aspect of your life sabotaged by crazy people?
>None of what you said is true
I played it myself you fucking tard.
just emulate the PS2 version
Golden was better but not so much that you need to wait for some clunky Vita emulator to get working
OP here, the idea of emulation has got me thinking about the rest of the series. Which game makes the strongest impression for a newcomer? I always hear great things about 3/4
1 and 2 are completely different games from 3 onwards so I would say 4.
Don't do 1. It's awful. It's like LSD Dream Simulator met a Might and Magic game.
>Does it have messages for how to cope with having every aspect of your life sabotaged by crazy people?
Persona usually tries to portray struggles that are common to a lot of people, so to cast the widest net possible. Therefore odds are you’d recognise your own struggle even if only in some aspect of another character’s. Yusuke for example, is constantly taken advantage of by his mentor, who maintains his fame and wealth by crediting himself with the work of others, who are disposed of when they cease to be useful. You might very well find parallels between him and yourself if you feel like someone is out to sabotage you.
That sounds fucking cool as hell though
This user is full of shit, 1 and 2 are much better games than the rest of them.
2 is the most insane. If you can deal with the outdated as fuck gameplay it goes fucking N U T S and you will certainly never forgetti.
Modern Persona is fine and all, but it’s a completely different beast than the crack-induced cosmic trip that is P2.
Is a level 99 Arsene viable? I hated how the protag's inner Persona and the one with the best design gets chucked aside like trash.
Come on, you can make a case for 2, but you have to be the most retarded contrarian to actually defend 1.
Ah, I'm not sure it'd deal with my struggles. They seem too niche to be shown by media.
C’mom dude. P2 has like the best narrative, but P1 really doesn’t and the gameplay is ancient. Even Soul Hackers feels more modern than this shit.
If you actually like first person dungeon crawlers just play Strange Journey. It’s probably the best of them Atlus has made.
I always thought this was fucking weird, Arsene is basically a mascot and you have to chuck him in the garbage before the first dungeon is over
Would you like to explain your situation to us?
Either way, even if the game doesn’t deal with your particular issues it certainly helps you relate to other people’s. Even when we don’t have answers to our own problems, to achieve empathy towards the strangers surrounding you is to find some rapport in that, though suffering, you are not alone. Considering us humans are social creatures, that already is a big step towards living free of pain.
Me myself live in constant pain and self-hatred, and in seeing the humanity of such emotions in the reflection of the other helps me cope tremendously.
