it's not terrible, but it's not intuitive to all hell.
The combat is not hard, and increasing the difficulty just makes enemies have more health, and you become a little shithouse worth nothing.
Some mods do change it, but at its core, Witcher 3 has an abysmal combat loop/gameplay for 'discovering' stuff.

I really like that CDPR kept styling on Bioware with the Witcher games, though: Witcher 2 after Dragon Age 2, Wild Hunt after Inquisition - and the ultimate irony is Witcher 1 uses a Bioware engine, they wouldn’t be where they are without them.
