Was reading about this again this morning. Still outraged.

Did they lose the source code or something?

Blizzard lost the source code and ended up remaking Starcraft for the remaster. Afterwards, this popped up and the guy returned it to Blizzard for Blizzcon tickets.

Some guy found a CD with starcraft 1 source code on it(in his basement or attic, I don't remember which) and being a good blizzdrone gave it back to blizzard

>for Blizzcon tickets.

They also paid for his fat ass to go to a hotel and be fed. He posted on reddit and waited for days until some official came to contact him.

story

>He posted on reddit
Why do they always do it on plebbit?

Some fat guy bought a box of blizzard stuff on ebay and found pic related. then
and here we are.
Because only the worst people find source codes or dev kits.

What would you do? Id backup everything and then burn the thing on livestream.

It was a fake story to generate buzz for the remake.

>They also paid for his fat ass to go to a hotel and be fed
That I can understand. If I was some fat 300lb fedora tipping redditor I would expect something like that. But fucking blizzcon tickets. What an awful "gift".

>I returned the disc to Blizzard 2 weeks ago. A few days later i received a copy of Overwatch and $250 in blizzard store credit. A week later i got another call from a Blizzard Employee. He wanted to thank me for returning their disc (which was in fact stolen). He then asked me if i have ever heard of BlizzCon. I said well, yeah of course but it's impossible for me to go, i live in the east coast, and the badges are always sold out before you can refresh the page lol. He said well, the reason we are calling you is to invite you to Blizzcon, all expenses paid, and we would love to take you out for drinks. I didn't know what to say, i was shocked, i expected nothing more than the free game and the store credit... After i thanked him 1,000 times he said oh by the way you should also be receiving something in the mail! This is what i got 2 days later

I didn't think I could hate reddit more than I already did

>Blizzcon tickets
They gave him more than just tickets but not a single video game.

see
He got a copy of Overshit.

Does anything good ever come from Reddit when they find super rare things?

I mean, it isn't as bad as the guy who gutted and trashed the internals of an old xbox dev kit so he could use it as a PC case.

ok and? what's to be outraged about?

Oh shit, you beat me by 7 seconds.

I love BW so I care more about this. One of my favorite games of all time

The real important question... How would he be able to upload that shit to the internet without getting done for it? I mean Blizzard could easily sue his ass and ruin his life (if they wanted to).

How exactly do you just "stumble" upon these in your attic or whatever?

oh no this one is actually depressing

>Give a special edition from the golden age of a company
>get a corporate husk
At least blizz showed gratitude but i would have never returned the disk desu

God damn this one is also infuriating.

It's luck. You could also have something super rare and you just don't know about it

some guy did the right thing.
internet thug life people got mad.

Counter argument: Competitive SC Brood War, which is one of the most beautiful competitive games and is still fairly active especially now that the remaster is out, would have been ruined if the source code leaked because essentially you would be able to make undetectable cheats if you had the source code.

>the right thing
there you go again with your moral system for faggots

>a bunch of nerds on Zig Forums
>"thug life"
You know what? Yeah. I'm absolutely thug life. I'm the most hardcore motherfucker in the world.

whats so bad about losing this?

I bet you pay for games, faggot.

Some Korean sperg would probably have paid $20,000 for that disc.

Almost everyone has one of these in their attic.

Not vidya but...

The starcraft guy bought the contents of an unclaimed storage unit in an auction.

Just upload it on library PC. Boom. Won't find shit, most libraries don't have cameras

So this solidifies the inevitable Remaster that will completely destroy anything that Starcraft ever was?

>i-it was just a joke guys haha
Even redditors got mad at this shit

There was also another Redditor who found the source code for Klonoa but refused to share it cause he's an autistic collector and his copy would lose value or some shit.
