NES was also very based, not much competition though

whenever timeframe that goes from "you know enough to have developed your tastes" and "you can predict what a game is going to tell you"
usually this matches childhood, because the naivete of being young and inexperienced goes really well with the fantasy world premises most videogames have

My childhood was the Snes/Genessis era.
But i unironically think the golden age of gaming is the period between 1995 and 2005.
That is when games on all platforms truly started to get refined and push the medium to its maximum while still focusing on making video games acual video games.
