why does Zig Forums look down on anything resembling decent writing in video games? why are they instantly classified as "movie games"?
Why does Zig Forums look down on anything resembling decent writing in video games...
Yeah, the writing is just too good. That's the problem.
We dislike W3 for its shitty gameplay. I still like the game but its combat sucks.
>we
only you faggot
Some VN have better gameplay than Witcher 3...
It is that horrible.
I call every game a movie game
including Pokémon
>gives the two worst examples
Long walks with nothing to do screams movie game to me
The Zork games are the only non-movie games ever made.
Both of these games, if released as films, would be shit January releases which no-one remembers in a year. TLOU especially is literal 6/10 material, the kind of film which barely makes it money back, gets three stars from critics, and then sinks without a trace.
last of us doesnt have good writing, where did this meme start?
yeah your taste is really that shit
games are toys i dont want writing on my action figures nugget brain just want to have challenge > beat challenge in a nice looking level
This. Laughed my ass off at the "emotional reveal" when they played it straight that Mc Gruffvoice's old lay actually, totally was bitten, to everyone's apparent surprise.
It's like they went by a checklist on how to rip off every direct to DVD zombie flick ever.
Maybe they should try making a good game instead of relying on the story to carry their sorry asses
Cope.
Good writing is only effective when the reader/watcher/player is immersed in the story/writing. For my part, I found elements in both TLoU and TW3 that distractred me from this. Now there are a plenty of writing-focused games where I did not find that to be the case and there are more than a handful of those that I rate really highly.
I post this frog so it's easier for you to disregard this post and not think too much about it, since I know that way lies cognitive dissonance. You're welcome.
Both journalists and consumers of video games (or more specifically these high-budget "cinematic experience" ones) are utter troglodytes as well and it allows them to get away with college film project level writing and be hailed as genius. It's sad to watch.
I thought everyone liked the witcher.
Your idea of decent writing is embarrassing cringeworthy shit like the mary sue supermutant fighting off the evil interdimensional army clad in black with the help of his magical princess adopted daughter.
Anyway, when they're called movies, it's not because of the quality of the writing but because of how much time the game makes you spend just passively staring at the screen.
>We
lmao fagtrarians
Cute, keep praising turds like that and pretend you have the slightest clue about good taste...
Kill yourself, nobody will miss you.
Cope. I only talked ill about its gameplay. Your game isn't perfect and never will be.
they did until normies began to praise it
>we
who's we? you and your imaginary friend? cope harder, bro. you're statistically like ~3% of all people that played this game. COPE.
Nobody had a PS4 in 2015 because Bloodborne was literally the only game that mattered for the system at the time. If BB was multiplat it would have won by a landslide. Not saying this as a BBfag, but as a anti-Witcherfag.
The Last of Us has bad writing.
Because they play like shit and movie games do not belong in the genre. They're just failed film makers. You objectively have shit taste.
Storytelling actually works completely differently in games and movies. That's part of the reason why movie adaptations of games are hard to do. Those who say a game shouldn't focus on story are retarded, what is important is to understand how storytelling works in games. The problem with Last of Us and similar games is that the writer probably wanted to write movie scripts but was laughed at due to his incompetence, so he started working for game companies, and try to apply (their already flawed vision of) movie storytelling tools.
You can have a relatively complex, enjoyable story, if you apply videgame storytelling tools. Trying to force movie format on games hurts the overall feel of the games, AND on top of that the forced story isn't that good either.
good gameplay and good (game) story > good gameplay with no/minimal story > good gameplay with good (movie) story > good gameplay with bad (game) story > good gameplay with bad (movie) story
They are movie games because they are mostly cutscenes. Especially last of us. W3 gets shit on because it's cutscene heavy and it has shitty combat
>yeah but what if
nah, cope harder.
3% kings.
When making an image like this, what would posess someone to make the top-left image, the first thing everyone is going to look at, a screengrab of TW3 losing to portal 2?
both of those are milestones in video game writing.
To anyone who isn't a cretin, all this does is highlight how far behind film writing video games really are.
Witcher 3 should have just come with a “skip combat” button. It would’ve been so much better. The gameplay is just that fucking horrible and unengaging.
