This, for a very long time the only pokemon game I played/beat was Blue, and then I got back into the franchise with Heart Gold/Soul Silver, and was incredibly disappointed to find out that I did not like the other pokemon games nearly as much, including the classics that came after the original gold/silver. I think it's by far the strongest installment in the franchise, coming from someone who should, in theory, be a nostalgiabound genwunner.

I hated D/P, too. Try gen 5 if you haven't. Black and White were good games. Platinum doesn't change enough to make that region good.

Platinum is a pretty objective improvment on D/P in a number of ways. But it's still got the same pokemon bullshit that they all have at the end of the day.

how so? It died with Black 1 and when they introduced a new gen within the same era, then in the 3DS era they released even more pokemon gens.
All they had to do was stop making new gens and focus on a quality product

Diamond and Pearl are bad. Platinum fixes a lot of the problems DP had. I wouldn't recommend it still.
HGSS is really, really good. It drags, though, just like the originals.
BW is my favorite entry in the game. It's pretty self contained, a whole new dex, serviceable story, good characters, challenging combats, most of the Pokémon are viable.
BW2 is god tier but it also drags and it's kind of a sequel to BW so don't play it first.
