The twist is that he is kris's fursona because he hates being human and wanted to be a monster like his adoptive brother. he's killed in the night between demo and chapter 2

He's kind of unbearable. The cutesy stuff just gets annoying

Honestly if his white-furred design was just the black-furred design with a color swap (which is already how most fanart portrays him with white fur) it'd be fine. The problem is his head changes shape when he takes off his hat, and his unmasked character portrait is an edit of adult Asriel at that so it's extra-jarring.

I don't think he's evil but he definitely has his own agenda, I also thought it was suspicious that he was really adamant about not letting you into his castle.
Also everyone calls him a lightener even though he's supposed to be a darkener which makes me believe Lancer is the true prince from the dark in the Deltarune prophecy.

Pretty much this, although I'll be a little irritated if he turns out to be the bad guy. I wish Asriel got a better ending in Undertale. Now we have this lookalike who is probably going to undergo a lot of suffering because Toby Fox has a hate boner for small goat children.

I guess I like his character but I found it hard to get invested in a new universe that seems like a rip-off of the original.

I don't mean a rip-off like that- I just mean that the games setting feels like an alternate take on the main Undertale universe. Specifically it feels like the point of the game is going to be to restore the "main" universe, so the characters feel temporary.
