So I'm playing royal and apparently I just got the """""""bad""""" ending where you agree to accept this reality. People are brought back to life, there's no more suffering, people aren't evil anymore and everybody gets along. I legit see nothing wrong with this other than they fact you miss out on I'm guessing more gameplay and you can't romance sumire.
I'm probably going to do the normal route where you refuse but does the game do a good job in trying to show why refusing this a good thing? Cause I legit can't find anything wrong with this. This feels like terrible writing if this is what they have as their argument. Like the worst writing I've seen in a game levels.

The problem with agreeing with him means that you'll be brainwashed into thinking those who died actually exist, while in fact they don't. It sort of resembles how nobody can understand Mona except for persona-users. The other problem is that disagreeing and defeating Maruki actually means that you still end up with the reality that you chose. A reality he could still realise since all he has to do is "lose". Meaning that whatever you choose, it is still a reality he could create for you.

Regardless of how you personally feel about it, it's clearly set up to be the bad ending because it runs against the themes of the game and the principles of the Phantom Thieves. They spend the whole game fighting for freedom, Maruki wants to create a world where everyone lives on the path he sets out for them, it's natural they would oppose him given the beliefs they show up to that point, even if he is well-meaning.

Maruki isn't giving people the reality that the people want, he's giving them the reality he thinks is best for them. He would never create a reality for Joker and the PTs where they fight and defeat him because that would bring conflict and strife into their life as they attempt to bring him down, which isn't what he wants. He wants them to live a life with no suffering. Beyond that, he doesn't brainwash anybody into thinking peope who died actually existed, he actually brings those people back. Akechi, Wakaba and Okumura weren't illusions, they were real.
