You can play either of them just fine. Theres only some references you'll miss but nothing vital

They are samey as shit gameplay-wise and 2 arguably introduces changes that only make the combat system worse like armor

The sad part is, only 1% of people here played the actual Divinity 2.

Story is very much different between the two as the second game happens ages after the first one. You might want to play DOS1 first to get some lore about the world and because most likely you won't return to it after playing 2, which expands upon 1 so greatly that its predecessor feels lackluster.

I like divinity 2 but shit is so overwhelming at first. Took me an hour to learn how to rotate the fucking camera

Nah, start with 2. One is good but the story is a bit too quirky and there isn't really anything you'll miss besides a few references, mainly recurring characters.

Just be sure to start 2 with an origin character, they add a lot to the game.

>Took me an hour to learn how to rotate the fucking camera

lmao i thought the camera was locked as well

Good, that game was a clunky fucking mess and should be forgotten. The mind reading was a cool little gimmick though.

1 is the better game

Nah, it was a decent game with a nice OST.

You can start with either OP, also do not fear about finding cheap tactics. I spent the first half of the game running a thief/barter system in which i would use one character to steal a merchants inventory and pawn it to the next one over and then so on and so on.
At the end I was soaked in money, gear, and then discovered i was only in the first town.

Thats the one on the gamebryo engine? I wastempted to try it just to see how a bethesda engine feels in someone elses hands.

1 is more complicated and generally better in all aspects except the fun
2 is washed down garbage in most aspects but generally has a more player-focused story and the combat is fun
depends how much of a fucking nerd you are I guess, DOS1 is definitely more fleshed out and ambitious, and the flow of the story and game is good
DOS2 fucked up by putting all of its fucking eggs in one basket called Act 2, when it should have taken setpieces like the graveyard, demon island, floating corrupt town and made them all into separate acts, its such a fucking forgettable drag and makes Act 3 and 4 seem short and shitty in comparison
and the ending doesn't even fucking matter even if you wipe everyone out

1st one is better in all honesty.
Production values are higher on 2, but they also cranked everything up - including shit that should have remained grounded or subtle.
It is a minimax power gamers wet dream, so if you are autistic then you'll like it more, but I couldn't get over every fight devolving into blessed fire blanketed teleportationfests with no real use for highground or choke points besides teleporting up, shooting a cunt then teleporting away.
Way too much flashy bullshit on spell effects and gfx, and over the top story with crap characters who act like maybe they should have just been the protagonist instead of you.
Also, companions being dudes you could have played as is fucking gay, and ruins the delight of meeting a nigger out in the world and having them join up. Hence why it's inclusion in the so-called "baldur's gate 3" has got me so butt flustered.

Uhhh what else?
Oh and the armour system. Mod it the fuck out asap before touching 2.

1 has way more, dare I say, soul.
Issues too, but in general it is just all around a better game.

dunno why but I just didn't enjoy OS2 as much as OS1. probably wasn't in the right frame of mind and overwhelmed by all the side quests. by the time I got to the last city I just didn't care anymore and I found the companions to just not be very interesting in both games. I also found the locations in the first game much more memorable and interesting.

my advice to people picking up the series, play custom characters and play lone wolf mode. you only get 2 party members but they get stat boosts and streamline all the tedious parts of the games like fighting trash mobs and managing inventory. also play co-op if you can.

This is objectively the best way to play.
You don't have to put up with larian atrocious character writing, and you get to have meaningful tactical fights with a true bro.
I played bot 1 & 2 Co op, (though there were 3 of us in 2) and fuck me was the first so much more tactical. Having to have my fighter bro draw attention and maintain a choke point while I sneaked around and took out mages, or having him lob grenades which I then augmented with elemental arrows was so much better than 2's combat - teleport, explode shit, teleport. Oh the enemy also teleported, and ignored your choke point, oh and now it's all cursed. Joy.

I went back and replayed both with a party to see if it was just how we played that made them so different, and yeah, 1 was better co op lone wolves, while 2 was shit either way.

neck yourself, shit wipe

one thing 1 did right was puzzles
i don't remember any in 2, none that were any decent anyway
1 stumped me with a few of them
plus 1 was a lot more "fuck you" friendly with traps and ending up completely fucked in general
plus tenebrium, that sure was fun
it fucking sucks in 2 that you have basically an infinite rapid regenerating energy shield that protects you entirely from harm when you trigger traps, even on the hardest difficulty
>you walk into a room filled with poison, you jog across it
>you step on a landmine halfway and it explodes everything in the room, nah i'm fine
>you step on more landmines along the way and nope, my armour is holding
>then the fire goes out and poisonous gas fills the entire chamber
>this is fine it can't get through my shield
this is awful game design in general, other than deathfog and lava there's nothing threatening out there, even cursed surfaces and shit don't matter
even if you do manage to get hurt just use a bedroll and boom full instant heal no problem bro you earned it
whereas in 1, if you tried jogging across a pool of poison you lose half your health within moments
you set off a trap and a fireball hits you, you're fucking dead or soon to be dead
get spotted by a sentinel statue and it fills a room with lava you can only survive if you stack fire resistance
lots of shit like that that makes dos1 so much more engaging, to me anyway
it also had fun cheese like the lava filled chest
it also made pet-pal a lot more useful and fun, animals having accents based on the animal was fucking great, like kentucky chickens and french strutting cocks, british chav rats all added to the charm
plus adding shit to items was more indepth, like adding a cup of oil to armour to reduce movement penalties, adding gems to gear giving them elemental bonuses (i.e slotting in a ruby made it fire resistant or do fire damage)
you get these items in dos2 like rubies and cups of oil but you can't use them they're pure fucking vendor trash

Sounds like the same issues DOS1 had. Pacing issues. I never played 2 but that was one of my gripes with Dos1. The pacing was pretty poor. It made me apreciate more the structure of infinity engine games like icewind dale or baldurs gate, a much more clearer structure. Dos1 was quite exhausting and spreading out the content better wouldve been better. I enjoyed the game alot though, the combat was great, the freedom of interaction was refreshing.

i was amazed at how much sex dialogue there was
a long ass multiple-branching fully narrated and origin character voiced sex encounter near the end of the game
only experienced ifans and lohses but i didn't experience any (other than red prince and sahda) until like 400 hours and multiple playthroughs
they're nothing if not thorough
shame the game feels like a whole bunch of typical RPG shit thrown into a room, but not lashed together properly

Is this ironic meme or a legit criticism? I didn't play 2 but this looks like ordinary rpg material.

Is the voice acting cringy in these games?

*chuckles*

You should play both, but the story is barely connected at all. Play 1 co-op, and play 2 solo.

The voice of the narrator is very cringy at times and always quite irritating. The voices of animals (you can talk to the animals if you have a Pet Pal talent which is pretty much mandatory for at least one of the characters in the party) are almost exclusively cringy. The choice to have a voiced narration everywhere is much to the games detriment imo because there's a lot of it and you would read it faster anyway.

It really is remarkable how many people play this game vs how many actually know it's title.

Divinity 2 is a completely different game from Original Sin 2.

Same universe, different point in time

This game should be remade in the OS style btw.

even though i know all its flaws its still unironically my GOAT
game i've played the most times

>Act 2

Possible the longest part of the game. Should have been split into 2 parts
