No? Vergil 3 was better from both a gameplay and story standpoint. DMC5 Vergil is a weak as as fucking final boss with an even weaker story moment to make Nero relevant.

Vergil 3 isn't even the best Vergil fight in 3 mechanically, Vergil 2 is the better fight but it's the least "kino" of the three. DMC5 M19 Vergil is incredible in terms of gameplay and M20 Vergil is quite good although designed as more of a victory lap.

The linear stage in Vergil 3 really ruins it for me, I understand the amazing scenery and literal "end of the road" but it ruins the actual fighting for me.
Also Vergil 2 and 4 are the only ones where Vergil has fun (Uses Cerberus for the lulz until he's half health, the smirk before Vergil 4). 1 and 3 are the serious fights where he's genuinely trying to kill Dante.

You can fight him as V, which I honestly really enjoyed since he's the only character you have to keep up with. It desperately makes me want a character focused DMC fighting game but I know most of the fans would hate that.

I think the issue with the Vergil fight is that it feels like deliberate fan service, like it was just tacked on at the end. I think the game was already over by the time V and Urizen merged back together and what came afterwards was just tying up the loose ends.

Nigger its literally the one fight where they are perfectly evenly matched, and has one of THE best cutscenes before AND afterward. That entire fight defined Vergil's character.
I bet you didn't even know at the location of every Vergil fight, the tower represents the power struggle of Dante/Vergil. Vergil 1 he is at the top, he wins. Vergil 2 its the middle of the tower, tie. Vergil 3 is hell, he loses.

People will always say it would be unbalanced as shit, which is true. It would really have to do things like make Royal Guard DMC3 tier to even be competitive. Fact is DMC5 feels amazing to control but to the point that it eliminates so much challenge in execution. Its possible, it would just be much different than people are used to. DMC4 basically plays like a fighting game in my opinion with how fucking bullshit it can be with its timings and practice needed.
