What went wrong?
>ME1 sets up sequal:
>humanity proved itself in the galaxy, but isn't anything special compared to other species
>Shepard is the only one who understands Prothean and the Reapers are still coming, leaving plenty of playing room for the Normandy to venture all over the galaxy and trying to piece together means for defeating the Reapers when they do eventually come with everything the Protheans left behind
>ME2 starts by shitting all over that, killing Shepard for two years and then turning humanity into the strongest faction in the galaxy(or at least, setting that up for ME3); Reapers are pretty much only interested in humanity in ME2, even going so far as to build a human Reaper larva (absolutely retarded, yes)
>joining Cerberus was retarded, as was Joker and Chakwas joining up before Shepard
>game, while super fun and engaging, is a complete side-quest and wasted effort when looking at the whole series

Just enjoy it as a standalone adventure that polishes all the essentials from ME1. I'll take it over 3 any day it at least had effort put into it.

>the best and most engaging mass effect game was achieved by completely sidelining the first game's plot

Says a lot, huh

ME2 should be first ME game.
>Mysterious race keeps kidnapping humans but nobody cares
>In order to save it you need to resort to working with shadowy organization
>No need for killing Shepard
>As reward for stopping them Shepard joins spectres.
>With Collectors gone Reapers have to find new servant race, so Geths
>You find first clues about the Reapers
>ME1 (now 2) is mostly this same storywise with this same ending and then 3 continues straight from it.

>What went wrong?
reaper stuff got really fucking stupid in 2.

>Shepard is the only one who understands Prothean and the Reapers are still coming, leaving plenty of playing room for the Normandy to venture all over the galaxy and trying to piece together means for defeating the Reapers when they do eventually come with everything the Protheans left behind
We already learned most of the information we needed from the Protheans about the Reapers in the first game, why revisit them again? We know they were just as clueless as us when the Reapers attacked.

>what went wrong
we have had this thread a hundred thousand times.
For the last time the original writers got replaced by fat women.

To this day no one has ever explained how the Reapers got to the Milky Way.

They literally just fly there, you idiot. They sped up really fast, and then they just used momentum. I get the story is a bit off, but literally how are you that stupid?

Didn't they just simply had to fly here from beyond the galaxy where they were resting? Normally they could just immediately teleport, but ypu prevented them from doing this.

Like, between Human, Asari, and Turian ships they alone can fly between 1-16 times the speed of light, and we know Reapers are faster than even that..

Look at the scene where we see them approaching the Milky Way. They are hundreds of thousands of light years away. The relays were constructed because you can't break the speed of light without them, and this is the entire reason why they needed to use the Citadel Relay. Otherwise they could jump in at beyond relativistic speeds, and wouldn't have needed the relay at all. This is established in the first game in a very concrete manner. Thus, the Reapers, even traveling at light speed, would have spent thousands of years just getting to the galaxy.

>were constructed because you can't break the speed of light without them
Literally just about every ship in Mass Effect, including the flying brick-shuttles, are FTL. Do not step to me on shit you know nothing about. It's literally a keep point that while they can do it, it's just grossly inefficient compared to the relays. Literally go read the lore.

You're pulling stuff from your ass because you only played Andromeda, zoomerino.

That was the thing that threw me off in 2. They just showed up without any presentation or explanation at all.

You must have missed ME2 and ME3. They already had a relay (they came into Batarian space) the problem was their major plan was was fucked by the Protheans and Shepard. Normally, Sovereign goes to the Citadel and activates it. They're suppose to decapitate leadership and systematically invade their territory through the citadel. ME3 is literally the Reapers worst case scenario.

I mixed up light speed for light years, but Mass Effect drive ships can travel roughly a dozen light years in a day. I did the math with examples before ages ago and it was between 1-16 light years for most ships.

Mass Effect 3 codex
>Reaper Capabilities
>"The Reapers' thrusters and FTL drives appear to propel them at more than twice the speed of Citadel ships. Estimates of their location in dark space suggest they can travel nearly 30 light-years in a 24-hour period."

Now apologize for being a vapid retard before I come to your house and literally beat you to death with a tire iron.

It's pretty obvious what went wrong, but I'll spoiler it just in case anyone hasn't played all of them:

Good. You opened this spoiler. This isn't actually a shit post from user. They're busy tending to what's left of their Senran Kagura waifu thread.

So you survived our fight in the last speculation thread. You're not as weak as I thought. But never forget that your best wasn't good enough to stop me. Now an entire planet is dying because you lacked the strength to win. The legend of user needs to be re-written. I hope I'm there for the last chapter. It ends with your death.

>Mass Effect 3
Not canon. Now apologize for being a little zoomerboi.

There was a video of EA talking to a room full of fans and they flat out asked them which they liked better, ME1 or ME2. ME1 got some raised hands, ME2 got way more.

The devs said they developed the game to appeal to the CoD fans, and this was also the first of two post-acquisition games when BioWare sole out to EA.

EA has done this before, a long time ago they did pretty much what y9u describe when Origin sold out to them and they bastardized Ultima from a lore rich RPG to one of the worst action games ever made.

I gave you a chance. You're fucking dead.

Based

DAO and ME2 were largely unaffected by the EA buyout except in DLC practices. They made a lot for ME2 especially testing the waters.

The first Mass Effect game wasn't really an RPG so nothing was lost when they made the sequel a more conventional third person shooter design.

>>humanity proved itself in the galaxy, but isn't anything special compared to other species

Litterally the opposite. They implied they would have much more power in ME1.

>MUH SIDEQUEST
who fucking cares, it was obvious they couldn’t handle the reapers anyway
I’m glad we got ME2 because ME3 was inevitable

Any story that tries to make human special when aliens are involved is written by hacks.

I'm thinking a war hero spacer. War hero because my squad would be confident with a squad leader who knows battle tactics. And a war hero, spectre who saves the galaxy fits well with the jesus like destiny

I'm interested to know what shep you made and why you chose that comination. like Ruthless colonist to fuck with batarians

Shamus Young made a series based on this topic
shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=28485

>space cthulus are just lazy and didn't want to break a sweat

Make sense with how arrogant they are

ME2 is the best in the series, gives me hope for ME5 to drop a larger save the galaxy narrative and just tell a standalone story.

The human strength thing is adressed in the first game, the Council regards humanity as a sleeping giant, the idea is that humanity combines the strengths of the other council races with an added sense of reckless ambition. Not saying I agree with the concept, but it has always been there.

Colonist/Ruthless would be fantastic if there were more Batarians to interact with, especially a squadmate, which I think is still a massive missed opportunity not having one in the first place.
