Silent Hill shits on the entire RE series.
No, it's graphics are shit tier.
No. This is peak contrarianism from some faggot nerd trying to act like he's hardcore.
Original RE1 is s good game still and absolutely revolutionary but the controls are clunky. It's not a low iq "that controls bad!" issue. RE2 came out just a few years later as was much smoother.
REmake took everything good about the original and expanded it.
They are both worth playing
Meant "tank controls bad!"
This. They're both good in their own ways.
I don't dislike REmake, but I absolutely prefer the original over it.
I think the mansion layout it a lot better and I prefer the cold sterile look of the original game over the kind of out-of-place gothic castle aesthetic the REmake goes for.
based and RE1pilled
None of REmake's changes are good outside of some of the puzzle replacements, and it didn't fix any of the original's problems like the significant drop in quality after the mansion. It still mostly benefits from just how good the structure of the mansion is but it makes the experience more drawn-out/tedious. It added more mandatory macguffins while keeping the inventory space the same, leading to a lot more item box backtracking. It added a limited-use door right next to a safe room just to annoy first-time players. It added Crimson Heads which force you to lug around a canteen (further straining your inventory). Lisa Trevor is an ill-fitting addition, RE1 didn't need a stalker enemy and Lisa doesn't have the presentation of Mr. X or the challenge of Nemesis. And there's so many dumb little changes like making shotgun headshots RNG, making certain Barry/Rebecca encounters mutually exclusive, adding a "mount" item in order to pick up the 2F map, extending the length of the second Yawn fight while adding zero depth, adding a dumb shark scripted sequence, etc.
And there's just something about RE1's atmosphere that is not carried over by REmake. REmake is more in-your-face about its horror. RE1's mansion feels more like a real place that is off-kilter, it's not afraid to be colorful but still have a sense of dread. I also prefer RE1's soundtrack by a fair amount.
For the record I played REmake before RE1, and only touched RE1 a few months ago. My opinion is not the product of nostalgia by any means. I just found RE1 to be a much smoother more enjoyable experience.
REmake is more clunky than RE1, actually. Do an experiment, play RE1 and spin Chris/Jill in a circle, then do the same in REmake. See what happens. Do the same thing in RE2/RE3/CV for extra context.
based.
I liked some of the puzzles in the original more like the aging man paintings in the art gallery (have to go in order from young to old then death) which was replaced with a boring change the colors of jewelry puzzle.
>kind of out-of-place gothic castle aesthetic
You legitimately don't know what that means if you think that describes REmake.
Oh and REmake Hunters are a joke.
RE1 Hunters are kind of bullshit but at least they're a threat. That's something RE3make carries over well despite being such a letdown in so many other areas.
my thoughts exactly. only thing REmake has over re1 is defensive items.
In my mind, I know REmake is good. I know it's a step up from the original in every way.
I just don't like it. I can't put my finger on it. Something about it just rubs me the wrong way. I don't wanna say "soulless" because that's a bit overused but it definitely feels like it's missing something.
Which to play? Resident Evil Gamecube remake, or other remake?
Based, but 4 destroys both of them
easy: it's not better.
Thirded, this argument is dare i say, shallow and pedantic. Play both games ya fuckin nincompoops video games are supposed to be fun all in their own ways. Stop trying to measure internet small wieners about this shit for the millionth time. Please for the love of god.
not joking, if you say you prefer re1 to remake you're just low IQ. plain and simple.
yes
no
>i like [game] for no reason, and I dislike [other game] also for no reason

Defensive items are bad game design. You got grabbed, deal with it. That's why in later games you are given the option to mash causing the enemy to deal less damage to you depending on your reflexes, which is way better than the defensive items idea.
Fourth'd
I rank the original and REmake side-by-side as peak RE
They're different kinds of horror. Resident Evil is sci-fi horror, while Silent Hill is supernatural horor.
Time for the real argument, Zombies, or ghost figments of your deep neurosis. Personally i like the tangibility of blowing zombies to pieces with limited ammo but there's something about unkillable mind goblins that is also entertaining. Thoughts?
The only thing REmake did better were the graphics and voice acting, everything else was a downgrade or a missed opportunity.
>Should we try to combine the Chris and Jill scenarios and have thing make more in-line with the sequels?
>Nah! Just throw in a new stalker enemy for no reason.
new voice acting is soulless
in some ways, yeah, the music is way better for one thing, and i think the mansion area looks better. just because its a horror game doesnt mean everything needs to be dark and brown.
I love how they just threw two mirrored spiders onto the boxart for no reason.
>as peak RE
Alongside RE4
I like RE1 original but i never used the canteen to ignite zombies brcause it takes up inventory space and dodging zombie bites are much easier.
The absolute best thing though is the gun, holy shit im not a /k/ fag, but jesus christ. Kill it with fire its hideous. Its like the directors cut basement music of guns.
They're both good user.
REmake
Pros:
>graphics are amazing
>added areas
>added modes
>easier to play on modern stuff
Cons:
>some new areas try too hard to be spooky, a hellroom under a graveyard makes NO SENSE in a game about a company making bio weapons
>literally resorts to rattling chains behind walls and lightening flashes through the windows, like a high school haunted house
>jaws part was cool and movie-like, but not at all creepy like the original "fish" segment was
>atmosphere is completely gone because everything mentioned above
RE1
Pros:
>atmosphere is 10/10 creepy as fuck, and keeps to that for the whole game
>music is a little better
>the lack of the extra areas, especially that horrible outdoors area makes the original feel more solid and well designed
>some people found the bad dialog charming, since it was a staple of most games of that era
Cons:
>live action videos were overly cheesy, even back then
>graphics are kind of hard to deal with for most people today
no, it's trash
>slow, easy puzzles
>shitloads of ammo
>retarded camera angles
>attic snake is harder than the final boss
>grating voice acting, Rebecca sounds like a banshee
>hunters are either passive bitches or stunlock you to death immediately, no in-between
>lots of pointless rooms
it invented some cool shit but it's just not a good game
It's a shame because everything else about it is iconic and absolutely perfect.
>the mural of zombies across the top
>the iconic red RESIDENT EVIL font
>chris's dual expression as he's backed into a corner
that ain't chris
You mean to tell me I've believed that to be Chris for over two decades when it's not?
I really wish capcom would add the original RE games on steam. The licensing rights would have run out by now and you could release them on xbox or switch if you so wished.
yes. your life is a lie.
That's not Chris.
I know its cliche to be "what if so and so made the thing instead" but man id kill for a Yoji Shinkawa version of the og box art. Which is a shame because not even MGS got that treatment. "hey guys what should we do about the box art for this trend setting game of a generation that will leave and impression on people for years? Yoji is still on payroll right?" "lol just make it white background with red text fuck Yoji"
>REmake
>greatest survival horror game ever made
>RE2
>second greatest survival horror game ever made
>RE4
>greatest third person shooter ever made
Why is the RE series so BASED? I love the above games so much I could never honestly pick a favourite.
Guaranteed RE4 Remake Changes:

I'm the user you responded to orginally, yeah bro thats not chris, its supposed to be someone from alpha team i always thought. Hes not wearing the green jacket and has camo pants on
I'm convinced Remake just gets that much praise and the GOAT status it has because of bunnyhop.
Fucking gullible idiots.
I want Ashley to slob on my knob and Ada to tickle my pickle
>No "no way fag" scene
life is suffering
This is how people are driven insane.
re2>>>>>>>>>>rer
Listen to its sweet siren song it will lull you back into serenity from having your brain blast moment.
Shit comparison.
>RE1 has better dialogue
>RE1 has better music
My ass, bitch. Mansion basement music memes exists for a reason. Sure the live action videos were cheesy, but how the fuck can you say that the live action videos were overly cheesy when the voice acting outdid the live action videos in terms of cheesiness?
>bad things good
>good things bad
