The fact that the Nerevarine destroys Morrowind and fucks the Dunmer means it makes more sense for him to be a Nord, Imperial, or Argonian. It’s a final “fuck you” from Azura to make their “messiah” a race they absolutely despise. And as says there’s no reference in Skyrim saying the Nerervarine is a Dunmer. All in all, arguing about the canon race of a protagonist is stupid anyway.
