No reason to pick the original if you patch WOTL to eliminate lag when casting spells.

WoTL, really enjoyable dialogue.

Original. WotL "fixed" the dialgue at the expense of chants, dialect, and worst of all removing legendary lines like "Blame yourself or God." and "Animals have no God!". Also somehow managed to make a slow and grindy game even slower, put a shitton of gear behind multiplayer-only content, including the Genji gear.

And I'm still confused.

Original. WotL has the translators completely rewrite the original Japanese dialogue for the worse. The original has its spots of poor translation but for the most part is a better experience

WotL, mainly for the new content and improved script. Get the Android version.

WotL on an emulator where there are no slowdowns.

For first play, go wotl for the cutscenes. I wouldn't mind a whole movie or series in that animation style, they managed to capture yoshida's tactics style perfectly.

original by far, wotl translation is fucking atrocious and doesnt even resemble the original work

Original. It's an actual translation.
The PSP version has a made up script by one of those lolalization guys that wants desperately to be an author but couldn't cut it, so they re-write video games instead of coming up with their own content.

The original with the WotL translation. Don't listen to the retards that prefer the original translation. Nostalgia blinds them.
The sound effects are butchered on the PSP so playing it isn't recommended.

Blame yourself, or god.

Depends on if you prefer flowery ye olde englishe or a typically shit 90s JRPG translation that occasionally sputters into nonsense

Original
WotL's translation is just as bad the original, if not worse in some places, for completely different reasons. Look up Any Ground or whatever it's called in WotL. Tell me if you can tell what that movement does just from the description alone. All the extra bells and whistles do not justify the translation.

Really, it's a bad translation and I hate it because I know SE will never back down on it and will insist any future ports will have this shitty translation.

Based.

Watch out, even to this day, War of the Lions can crash hard and you'll lose out on a ton of time. Also data corruption is present.

It's almost 25 years since the release and I still don't know what they meant with LAYER UPON LAYER... MAKE YOUR MARK NOW! But I can't forget it either. The OG is jank-kino as far as translations go.

Is that Haste's chant?

Yep.

WOTL. Everyone pretending the original localization is better is either ESL or a fucked-up weeb.
FFT PS1 was pre-schooler english for a fucking medieval realpolitik game

Goddamn, would you believe me if I told you I didn't look it up?

Original. WoTL has the hollywood "olde english" which was never in any time an actual dialect or spoken version of english. It's entirely fabricated to make things sound "olde".

Yes. Because it's burned into my mind. I literally can't forget about it.

WotL is basically the better version. It lacks some of the original translation's memorable lines admittingly, but it also doesn't have blatant mis-translations that get more and more frequent as the game progresses.

For instance, every instance of the word "Breath" in a skill name in the original translation was mistranslated as "bracelet". So instead of "Fire Breath" and "Stop Breath" (as in suffocate), they are "fire bracelet" and "stop bracelet". Also the fire and ice guns had their names mixed up.

The only objective flaw WotL has is the slowdown, which can be patched out. So if you can do that, play WotL.

When should i play FFTactics? i'm playing FF in order, i'm on FF4 rn.

If you are being serious, play it whenever you want. None of the games are connected to each other.

Any time after 7.

WotL is basically a monkey paw translation, a better translation for FFT was what everyone wanted, not the stylistic abortion that we got

>None of the games are connected to each other.
ya i know that. But i want it to play in a way that it doesn't make me feel like post FF games are fcking garbage gameplay. That's why i'm playing them in order.

I guess play it after 7, I believe it was released after 7.

The original is ひるがえりて来たれ、幾重にも その身を刻め… ヘイスト
Google gets: Coiled back and carved his body many times... Haste!
In some some shitty mobile FF game, Record Keeper, FFT characters supposedly use the WoTL translation spell quotes that were disabled. Haste is "Hither and yon you flit and fly, mark well time's passage swift and sure!"

After FF7 if you're doing release date order. Mechanically speaking, perhaps after FF5. Otherwise it's more independant than most FF from the rest of the main series.

Wotl easily, as long as you patch out the lag.
The original is trash and you know it. Get Lost. I'M SAVING AGRIAS! GERONIMO!

Between 7 and XII

Gonna play it after 7 then ty for the answers. Also FFT Advance have any connection to this one?

when in doubt, go in order of release, not necessarily which number comes after the "Final Fantasy"

Just the setting's name, and the general gameplay. However i'd say FFT is more complex than FFTA, both in story and mechanics.

Nope, it's completely stand alone. Well FFTA2 is a semi-direct sequel, but otherwise yeah the two games are stand alone. They have a similar setting to FF12 though

I'm going to headcanonize it as "Lift our speed, higher and ever higher" now and none of you can stop me.
