He used to be calm, super smart, hormonal when talking to Mona, and most importantly, extremely poetic and fancy, using clever phrases every 5 seconds.
In Max Payne 3 Max can't stop judging people, the game literally starts with him judging others, In MP1 and 2 he always judged himself mostly, and when he judged others like Mona or Vlad it was in connection to himself.
BUT HERE HE CAN'T SHUT UP ABOUT HOW MUCH HE HATES RICH PEOPLE, about how much he hates everyone, about how everyone who isn't him is a shallow asshole, JESUS CHRIST SHUT THE FUCK UP MAX, you're a fucking alcoholic suicide waiting to happen you are nobody to judge that jewish big nosed blonde thot.
I only played Max Payne 3 but I can't see how the first two games could possibly be better. You're just nostalgic and have shit taste
Ayden Stewart
You haven't even played 1 and 2 and have 0 respect for noir crap, your opinion is worthless, kill yourself.

You literally explained it in the last sentence. He became a suicidal alcoholic. You become an asshole when you dive long enough into it.
Oliver Bailey
I know character development is a thing, it's not a bad thing when characters go in a different direction like Leon in Resident Evil, but it was a huge part of Max to be poetic, hell, it's REQUIRED for a noir setting for the protagonist to be fancy, "I was hurt, my crime, what I had done, was like a hungry pit behind me".
Meanwhile here HE'S NEVER fancy, he talks like a retard, and he's crying 24/7 about rich people, he never mentions Mona one single time in the entire game but he sure as hell can go in twitter communist rants. I want a real, cynic max, not a suicidal bernie supporter.
Your correct. But it's Zig Forums's nature to be contrarian. Don't look for reassurance here. But be strong in the conviction that 3 is trash compared to the first 2 especially in terms of writing.
Jeremiah Sanchez
Alcoholics aren't usually fancy, and they cry alot.

MP 1 and 2 weren't straight true-crime shooters, they were laden with allegories and had a poetic, dream-like quality. MP3 is written by Dan Houser, a guy who wrote a bunch of GTA games, and in the last GTA he wrote before MP3, GTA4, he leaned heavily into gritty "true crime" territory, or at least tried to.
Jace Bell
Max Payne 1 and 2 were made entirely by some Finnish company. The third one was made by completely different people.
Luke Edwards
Yup, not just that but Zig Forums people are not very smart so it's not that I would expect of them to know 1940 noir movies and have appreciation for Max Payne 1 and 2.
Most of them just love MP3 because it was their first max payne game, an they probably played it when they were 12, so they have a soft sport in their heart for it.
I suppose that is one way to explain it, it's just a huge shift. When Leon went from naive innocent stupid cop to DMC Dante, he at least kept his appearence, you could still see that was Leon and the traumatic event of Raccoon City was clear as day.
Here not only he looks like Michael from GTA, but he has nothing noir in him other than heavy drinking and smoking. The writers didn't understand Max at all. They could have gone in a shitty alcoholic direction, but it had to be clear why. Mona died 8 years ago, and he was FINE with it at the end of the game, I dunno, I've just never seen someone get sad about someones dead years after it happened.
When Max's wife and kid died he was immediately changed, here in MP2 it ends with "I was at peace, I dreamed of my wife and it was alright", and then I am met with a character who is a dumpster on fire.
I feel like a huge hypocrite playing Max Payne 3 but uninstalling Dead Rising 4 because "this is not my Frank", If I'm gonna stand his character butchery in appearance, personality, and how they pretend events from previous games didn't happen, then Dead Rising 4 deserves the same treatment.
MP3 was not written by Lake nor made by Remedy. It's a generic as fuck Yankee-shit.

Most of the people here are millenials and zoomers. They don't remember the original games let alone the source material the game is based on. They just remember an after image of it. This is why they have such a following around games they've never played. The unfortunate truth is that the feeling and spark of games like that is now gone and will never return because the average gaming consumer has been fed trash for so long that even the most barely polished turd will be like a 5 star meal to him. Gaming is dead. I'm sorry.
Charles Bennett
>I only played Max Payne 3 but... Stopped reading right there. MP1 and 2 are some of the quintessential videogames, and you're nothing but a console-zoomie faggot.
>Most of the people here are millenials and zoomers. They don't remember the original games Nigger, MP1 and 2 are LITERALLY Millennial games. I'm a late Millennial, and I still vividly recall how EVERYONE raved about MP1 when it came out. It was not only the "Matrix" of vidya, but also practically the "Crysis" of its era.

Apply to yourself. I've been here for precisely 15 years now, meaning longer than (You) have even been alive. Finally: not an argument.
1 > 2 > Alan Wake: American Nightmare > AW > > > MP3.

>millenial games You were a child when they were made. You wouldn't have had the mental capacity to understand them when they came out. There is a reason that there are childrens books and adult books. You were a child playing an adults game and you will never understand what we understood playing it.

Not just that, but I was amazed by how fun they are, despite them being 2001 and 2003 games. The graphics are good, the comic sequences are extremely unique and not many games do that, and the gameplay is better than most modern games.
I seriously can't grasp my head how a barely known company made a game that aged so well, 19 years after and MP1 doesn't make not even the most entitled zoomer seethe because the controls and gunplay are perfect.
>I've been here for precisely 15 years now okay boomer

he's tired of this oversocialized world and their moral dogmas, just like everyone else.

2 sucks cock, Zig Forums won't admit it, but it was way more emo and gay than 3 was. at least 3 is quotable
Mason Wood
Ohhhh I didn't know about this game, do you like it? I am looking at it and seems really good, is it sort of noir like max payne? Seems to be about a mystery and looking for a missing wife.
Jeremiah Harris
>You were a child when they were made. Correct. I was 13 when the original came out. It was a massive hit.
>You wouldn't have had the mental capacity to understand them when they came out. More like (You) would not have had it. Still, calling Max Paynes some "deep & emotional" experiences is just demonstrates your fake elitism. I had played them Silent Hills and MGS' at that point, MP was child's play in comparison.
Brody Gray
I actually really like MP2, I guess it's mostly because I really liked the romance between Mona and Max that wasn't present in the 1st game and the comics were better made instead of being "Just funny and 4th wall breaking". MP2 doubled down on the Noir, and hell, I was shocked when I played it, there was NO FUCIKNG WAY a 2003 game was brave enough to show nudity but most 2015+ games are afraid of revealing clothes in women.
Remedy is a perfect example of the 1990s / early 00s bro-tier god-devs: >small group of friends >had tons of fun making their games (everyone and their moms were used as models for the characters & NPCs, ffs!) >wanted to push tech forward, because fuck yeah!
Result was a superb game with a big heart and soul.
