Risen

Is it as good as Gothic?

I don't know because I have never played it but I have to because the protagonist is handsome.

I'll give you a bump because i'm tired of attention whores making the same Fallout 3, male vidya, female waifus, coomer therads, etc and old games never get any attention.

As Gothic 1/2? No, but the first half of the game is good and definitely worth playing. Compared to Gothic 3, it's better.

no, but it's better than Gothic 3, that's for sure
def worth playing if you like Gothic 1 and 2
dont bother with the sequels

>because the protagonist is handsome.
Looks very generic to me.

For me it's:
Gothic>Gothic II>Risen>Risen 3>Gothic 3>Risen 2
Haven't played Elex yet, hope it's good.

what happened to 2nd half

it turns generic and tedious, the first half has a certain kind of charme to it and then it's suddenly gone

No for me its

Gothic 2> gothic 1>>>>>>>> risen > elex >>>>>>>>shit >>> gothic 3 and the rest of PB games

Becomes a linear lizardfest.
Wouldn't say the 2nd half, more like the last third.
Still a lot of grindy combat after an extremely comfy and varied beginning

hope you like big open world games that are empty

The second half is you spend hours killing the same shitty lizardmen in the same shitty ruins then the game ends with basically a minigame.

It's very very decent. I played it start to finish at release.

For me it's Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods ENHANCED Edition

yeah but what happened. did they run out of budget or time

Bruh that was literally outsourced to a random Indian studio to make a quick buck.

>Is it as good as Gothic?

It's more like Gothic 2 than Gothic 1 really.

Risen did things right (by right I mean Gothic-like mechanics) by having no level scaling, rewards exploration with hidden loot, gothic-esque combat, decent role-play elements, and actually makes in the in-game currency feel useful. Don't waste your time with the sequels.

Forsaken Gods is some sort of sick cosmic joke. After the dumpsterfire that was Gothic 3 you'd think that it couldn't get much worse than that, then JoWood literally outsources an expansion pack to pajeets. At least they let the series die peacefully after that.

Do you mean Elex? Anyway from what I've seen with Elex even just the basic premise seems nonsensical and stupid. It's sci-fi, except there's also the force, and you spend the hobo phase of the game hitting space rats with a lead pipe. It's so thematically confusing.

i dunno, feels like they ran out of interest for the thing and were just like "whatever, let's wrap it up with lizards or something"

>After the dumpsterfire that was Gothic 3 you'd think that it couldn't get much worse than that

Maybe it's because I played most of Gothic 3 with all the unofficial patches available but I didn't think Gothic 3 was a dumpster fire. The only dumpster-fire aspect of the game was the treasure chest mechanic. That aspect is absolute cancer.

>At least they let the series die peacefully after that.
LOL, no they didn't

I think it's just that they dragged out the "fight the big baddie" climax section of the game for way too long, so that it sure felt like a section of the game. They should have shortened that part to a regular quests' length or something.

I enjoyed Risen 1 & 3 a lot. Came back to Risen 2 later and it clicked with me so I enjoyed it too. I finished Elex and seriously, it lacked cohesion/polish. They aren't capable to make big worlds properly, they should stick with small worlds full of cool things to experience/NPCs to meet. Elex was washed down and became a bore quiet quickly.

Honestly, seeing as how even Gothic 1 and 2 have glaring drops in quality in the later parts, it's probably just PB having the tendency to run out of ideas at some point in their games and just filling the rest with generic trash.

Classic PB game design, first you enjoy the marvelous world and sweat up the ranks, going from zero to hero.
They you're supposed to feel like Rambo and mop the floor with endgame enemies that used to be invincible when met in early game
They never been good at that last part though

>let the series die peacefully after that
after a violent murder and rape of the rotting corpse

Oh yeah, they renamed this game and removed any mention of the "Gothic" moniker. Fucking lmao

please stop positing games that don't exist user

You actually enjoyed Risen 2 and 3? Can you try to explain why? Cause I played 2 on launch and it was missing things like blocking and dodging, granted they added dodging later but blocking was still nonexistent. Not to mention I think they made range combat strictly lock-on.

On an unrelated note pic-related is probably the most "Gothic"-like game I've played in the last 10 years apart from the actual Gothic games. It may even rival Risen. I highly recommend it, if you have an SO or a good roommate you can even play splitscreen. Fucking cool game.

It might as well not exist. If you check the game out on Steam now it no longer has the "gothic" part attached to its name.

I don't even remember much of the end of Gothic 2 apart from the fact that you got the dragon armor if you went Mercenary, and late game involves some snow and ice biome, and you get into a fight with your homeboys on your side? And then the barrier is removed?

I honestly cannot remember. But yeah the early game is super memorable so you might be right about this one.

It still has people like Gorn, Diego, Xardas and straight up the Nameless Hero, among many other callbacks to the Gothic games. They're not fooling anyone with what they were trying to do.

So close. It's called Outward

Well originally it was the official "gothic" sequel since Jowood had the rights to the name so that part is genuine.
