I've been thinking about buying this game on Steam. Is it actually an emotionally engaging experience, or is it another "I'm 14 and this is deep" game?
I've been thinking about buying this game on Steam. Is it actually an emotionally engaging experience...
It's both. Kind of how FF7 has some actual fucked up shit with Cloud's memories and Sephiroth's origin, but also there's Cait Sith.
It's unironically one of the most touching, atmospheric and amazing games, ever made.
t: 33yo w/ around 500 played games.
>Is it actually an emotionally engaging experience
Yes. Remember to get the FAR Mod for better performance and visuals. Then go offline until you finish the game, all 5 chapters. But stay in Online mode within the game.
I don't use mods on a first playthrough, unless it's a patch.
Not him, but it's one of those needed PC fixes like the one for Dark Souls.
cutscenes are 10 fps without the FAR patch
It's not really emotional at all for me, but it has lots of interesting ideas.
It's just really boring and lame desu.
FAR Mod IS a fan-patch.
The PC port is kinda bad as-is. All the FAR mod does is let you use your ACTUAL rendering resolution, adjust Global Illumination so your GPU does not fry up, crank up AO and Bloom to native levels, and limit/unlimit framerate.
You didn't even play the game.
> I don't use mods on a first playthrough, unless it's a patch.
You do now. And yes, it's a patch. Also, even with the patch, your results may vary. For me, I still had a memory leak even with it. So every 45 minutes or so, the game would slow way down and I'd have to exit and reopen it to fix it. Still 100% worth it. I wouldn't put up with that shit for a lesser game, but Nier is unironically such a masterpiece that it's worth putting up with its technical issues.
If you decide to play it then make sure to continue playing after ending A. Although they are called endings a better word for them would be chapters. You have experienced at best 50% of the story at the end of chapter A. Later on in the other chapters many new story elements, including the actual ending of the game, is introduced.
New playable characters and gameplay mechanics also are introduced.
As for the story, it was pretty good imo. It had lots of mystery.
The later.
It's not a bad game; just mediocre and emotionally manipulative.
yes i did, its boring and lame
The story was fine honestly. Better than the wast majority of games. And what do you mean by emotionally manipulative?
Show me a photo of your main menu and save files.
Not a single thing in this masterpiece is "just mediocre".
The directing is 10/10, the story itself isn't anything special especially if you haven't played the first game since you won't notice all the allusions and references.
Your mileage will vary depending on where and how you are in life, it's really just a niche game with a non-niche budget for mentally ill 20 year olds, you won't get the full experience unless you're 20 and questioning your humanity because of things related to your mental illness.
Boring is not an argument.
It's not an emotionally engaging experience unless you're a a fucking loser.
It's a pretty shit game once you get over 2b's panties showing once she self-destructs
Environment graphics. They put all the effort into the characters while the environments are somewhere between a PS2 and a PS3 game. It's still a masterpiece though.
Remember to use spoilers when posting spoilers, "kudasai".
>no argument
Its not that deep, it just has actual themes unlike most games.
While it's very petty to post spoilers like that, a game that can be ruined by reading some text is a game not worth playing in the first place.
Not really. Just because spoliers can ruin you experience of playing a story oriented game does not mean that the game is not worth playing.
The gameplay is mediocre
The RPG mechanics are mediocre
The world design is mediocre
The PC port is mediocre
The story is mediocre and emotionally manipulative ("oh god, machines being forced to live like people suffer so much ;_;")
On the whole it wasn't a bad game (I liked it enough to get the Ending E but enough not to do a completionist run) but easily the weakest of the games released on 2017.
The story was better than the vast majority of games.
And it isn't anywhere close to the weakest game of the year, it was still better than alot of other games like destiny, senua's sacrifice, etc.
>oh god, machines being forced to live like people suffer so much
Thats not a very good summary of the story. The story touched on many ideas.
It's a "I'm 14 and this is so deep" type of game. People only like this game because they fap to 2B.
The game itself is ok but overrated beyond belief.
>The story was better than the vast majority of games.
So? Story on videogames is something that doesn't matter in the slightest.
>And it isn't anywhere close to the weakest game of the year, it was still better than alot of other games like destiny, senua's sacrifice, etc.
Haven't played those so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
Like the war between androids and machines was just bullshit to give both a purpose? Because that falls into the "robots suffer so much ;_;" category.
Automata was a reminder of a lesson I should have learned years ago: never play a game whose fans never discuss the gameplay.
