I learned a valuable gaming lesson today that I wanna share with you

Before today, I was an hypocrite, I used to think games going to a different direction was a bad thing, that it was betrayal, Final Fantasy abandoning the turn based system that made it iconic was a bad thing.

But I am playing Max Payne 3, which abandoned everything from previous games, the story, the setting, the noir, the protagonist, etc and I realized I was wrong, it's a pretty good and fun game, even if it went into a GTA direction.

So I realized something. Not because a game does into a different direction it's a bad thing, all games change, either in graphics, tone, gameplay, etc. If Resident Evil hadn't been bold enough to abandon its iconic tank controls we wouldn't have fun Resident Evil 4, or Morrowind, Oblvion and Skyrim if the awful and boring Arena and Daggerfall structure hadn't been changed.

So I realized change is good! We should welcome change and at least, give it a chance, it doesn't have to of our taste, but not because "it's different from the previous games" it means it's a bad thing.

I used to think RE7 wasn't a Resident Evil game for going full horror and 1st person, but I realize now that was a mistake. And I can't wait until Christmas to give Dead Rising 4 a chance again since if i'm going to ignore Max Payne no longer acting like Max Payne and abandoning the setting I shouldn't treat Nu Frank and the "hehe zombie kill fuuun" theme of the game like something bad.

God bless you all and Merry Christmas.

Yeah that's cool but dead Rising 4 isnt very good.

Games can never get better unless they change, but keep in mind that a new direction can easily be a bad direction.

Not white enough

As I get older I appreciate games that aren’t too overly complex or tedious, sometimes I’ll go on vacation or be too busy and forget how to play a game or where I was and lose interest. I still appreciate grindy games though, but casual games still have no excuse for being cheap and lazy. I guess I agree with you there are some things about games that aged terribly

God speed user, thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I can't read.

>an hypocrite
Stopped reading there.

change is neutral

In this market, change doesn't happen for no reason, and virtually all change is explicitly for the purpose of drawing in a wider, more casual audience. It's rarely a benefit to games.

AAA titles rarely change things for the better in the last decade or so though in my experience...
I mean, you mention Final Fantasy: and I just see board of directors making boring - more - of the same - unoriginal milking the kids with the pwetty graphics. And sure, it's a market, but it's not where you'll find the new fun stuff, I think the new (really, actually) fun stuff will mostly be found in indies these days. Minecraft, Hollow Knight, Rain World, Fury: it's those kind of titles that get me the most fun: and excited for vidya: triple A is where you look when you want more of same stuff you already know.

Hey, that's nice of you user. Good to see that you are able to appreciate vydia from a new perspective. Not to say all changes are good, but it doesn't mean change has to be bad either.

Dumb frogposter.

Yeah, I saw the error of my ways, I wish I could apologize to all the Anons in Resident Evil threads when I told them that Resident Evil 7 wasn't a Resident Evil game and if they liked it hey should get cancer and die.

That was wrong of me and from now on I will try all sort of games, even if the series goes into a different direction.

Unless those games are visual novels or online games because those are for fags.

Work on your English.
DR4 is unredeemable trash, btw. It's certainly possible to have a bit of fun with it, but the same can be said of a burning dog turd.

Merry Christmas to you too mate.

You overdid it on the Triple C, user. It's June...

I agree that change isn't inherently bad, and is at the very least ambitious or refreshing.

But I stand by my belief that bad changes are bad.

But I love Christmas. To me, Christmas is every single day of the year. Merry Christmas user!

People just need to respect tradition more. Niggers that change every single thing about a game and then keep the same title should be shot. It's about finding a balance.

Based thread, wholeheartedly agreed OP.

Cool, so now will you not screech about motion controls? I actually kind of enjoy them, in games where they're done well. Even in Skyward Sword where it's a huge gimmick, I actually think they can be fun, and add to a game's learning curve in an interesting way.

tl;dr
also you sound like a faggot

Imagine if the majority of games today were still pixelated side scrollers / top down. A lot of change is retarded, but not all of it is bad.

Change is good and should always be welcomed
You must be aware that bad changes can lead to good changes that never would have happened had that bad change not occurred
Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Easter!

based retard.

change for change sake is never good
