how would you improve bug fables?
How would you improve bug fables?
overhaul the combat. get rid of the minigames.
Hire a competent artist and a decent composer.
feels too much like paper mario
Better animations and probably clean up the art in general.
I just got to the desert chapter and am surprised they stopped doing the "save point at the start of the area heals you" thing. I think it was generally a good idea, making you pay Venus and having her just sorta pop out sometimes just seems like a direct downgrade.
Overall though I like the game and really enjoy its hard mode, especially the fun unique badges you get from it like the one that make Kabu deal damage when he blocks.
If you told me every single UI element in the game was just stolen from TTYD and recolor'd I would believe it
That's an insult to The Thousand Year door
First person horror segments
Can someone edit this to say "Ladybugs are niggers"
Better graphics and more unique character and boss and enemy designs
Better music
Less fucking dialogue
The one thing I was hoping they copied from TTYD, those appeal poses when you time the button just right. Doesn't makes sense when it's not a stage thought
Work on the writing and art, otherwise its fine/good in the other aspects
I would have them hire me personally to redraw every character, asset and UI element
It's not bad as it is but it could be so much more visually pleasing
Yeah it's too bad there's no Stylish moves.
I wonder if the devs would consider a followup with higher production values or if this was a one and done sort of thing.
Make the bugs fuckable in real life
Done.
I like it a lot, some elements really do feel like a proper evolution from TTYD. I wouldn't change much, basically just focus on improving the graphics/art that is definitely the weakest part of the game. The dialogue, while charming, is also a bit wordy at times. It could use some trimming here and there.
I just got to the Sand Castle and this game is really surprising me with how much it's improving as it goes.
Knees are going on your neck next time
Better music and a more inspired artstyle.
Im not saying that the game look bad, but but it missing that thing that make you say "that's Bug Fable", while the game actually is just Not-Paper Mario.
Still thnak god that we got the first real Paper Mario in 15 years, so...better this than nothing.
The music is great but the midi instruments get a bit grating, same as Paper Mario 64.
Make bulk cooking possible, for one.
Needs better music and a better artstyle. Everything looks unique but somehow the same, while paper mario can make the same things feel unique. The game is really lacking the polish and soul that made paper mario great.
>add significantly more badges in general
>make more moves tied to badges instead of learned on level up or from characters being like "oh yeah, I can do [thing] btw lol" in a cutscene
>rebalance some of the badges, mostly to reduce their cost - some feel pretty shit because they cost an entire level's worth of BP for an incredibly situational effect and it would be objectively better to spend the level up on FP instead
>streamline or even automate the cooking system somehow, my strategies depended on items, and running the same fucking errands every time I wanted to go anywhere at all where I planned to engage in combat was a pain in the ass
>make the boomerang not absolute ass to use in the overworld
>polish how enemies telegraph their attacks so you don't have to straight up guess which of two moves an enemy is using which look and sound completely identical until 3 frames before they hit you
So many complaints about the music. I think the music is great, a lot of memorable tunes that have been stuck in my head all week.
The UI is stopping me from playing it honestly.
I just finished the main game and most of the sidequests/superbosses on hard mode. So, I like the combat, hard mode was fun and a decent challenge, and I love the enemy variety. More badges that weren't just a give and take thing would've been nice though. Soundtrack was fine, there were lots of tracks I loved in it, namely the wasps' theme and the harder foes battle them, I liked it overall but less reliance midi instruments would be nice. The art was cute, but there were some places where I feel like they really could've tried harder, overall it was passable to look at.
I'd say my biggest issue is the writing, the character interaction is great, I love the main three, but the main story is pretty bland, it starts out really strong then devolves into "go here go here go here beat this guy go here go here beat that guy the end", it feels less like you're an exploration team and more like you're the bitch that HAS to do everything for everyone. And the villain is pretty shit too, he doesn't have any real motivations besides being evil and poor and then he just dies. The whole last chapter is rather crappy writing wise, I feel like the creep factor of the house and nazi scientist-esque qualities of the roaches could've been expanded on more, along with expanding on the wasp king, and it's way too short. I also would've REALLY loved more important characters, you've got the main three and the ant queen, and that's kinda it, the paper mario games have loads of quirky characters that keep popping up through out the story, and the ones in bug fables kinda just peter out towards the end or aren't at all interesting, the only exceptions being zasp and mothiva.
Good game, good combat, meh story.
>the music is great
The music is good, but not even close to the quality of the top of indie games music sadly.
I beat the game last night and the only standout track was the Pharoah fight in chapter 3. The town theme made my ears bleed. Awful.
These are pretty much my thoughts as well. I think the sound design needed some work, the action commands especially, while I understand they tried to mimic the PM style, really could've used better sound effects (the dings for any timer-based action command for example sort of felt weak). There was missed potential in music as well, having a post-chapter victory lap song that played when the game summarized what you did in it would've helped make things more memorable/interesting.
Less reliance on sidequests
Buffing base ATK stats should happen every few levels rather than locked behind a price.
Endgame overworld movement speed increase to help with backtracking.
Other small QoL things that could be solved in a sequel or DLC or something
more partners
i only liked the bee really
